Re: OT: UAlbany - NANO
Awesome news for Albany! Time for full-scholarship football in all the SUNYs. Getting us closer towards being in the same football conference (albany & SB)..

Re: OT: UAlbany - NANO
Maybe I'm wrong...but I see the two of us closely tied at the hip, for better or worse. These two schools have the potential for a great rivalry.

Re: OT: UAlbany - NANO
Hell yes. I would love it. We need a State rival.. seriously! If Albany-Stony Brook play conference games each year, I am sure I will drive up there when i need to. People will do the drive if the game actually counts, Im sure.

5,732 in attendance tonight at LaValle for the opener. I feel like we are finally getting better crowds in football which is awesome. This year we should break record attendance if we keep the pace (average attendance record is 5,475 for opening year back in 2002). Next week is homecoming against Lafayette, and considering last year it was 7k fans that showed up against VMI then I would say this year it should be a sellout, and it feels like it will with all the hype. Liberty, Coastal Carolina are all coming over. Students are becoming more aware, I'm glad to see an increase in support year-by-year since I got here back in 2007. I see a bright future for SB support and hopefully it wont be long before we start pulling ocassional sellouts. If someday we start playing Albany again in the same conference it will definitely be a positive considering the amount of SB and UA alumni spread all over the Hudson valley-Capital District, NYC, and Long Island. Re: OT: UAlbany - NANO
Whats the average attendance for last season. Home Openers and homecoming usually have higher than average attendance. Ya seem to have good fan support, getting to 6k shouldn't be a problem.

Re: OT: UAlbany - NANO
Not going to be an excuse that many understand, but we lose at least 2-3k fans per game when it's not a big game simply because of the way the stadium sits (one of very few East-West facing stadiums in the country) makes it super cold...and...the seating, which takes away 2k or so seats where you can actually see the field.
I think we averaged around 3500...could be wrong. With a new stadium...that easily increases to 5k or more. |

Re: OT: UAlbany - NANO
Around that - last 4 years 3637, 3165, 3922, 3024 last year. With a better stadium MAYBE we could get more than four home games, or better dates, and build some attendance momentum. Hated that this year we play Sacred Heart on Nov. 19 when both had open dates Sept. 10.
Or at least play road games at St. Francis, Sacred Heart, and Duquesne on the Jewish Holy Days (when Albany's basically closed).

Re: OT: UAlbany - NANO
What is the relationship between albany and sematech and how much of Albany Nano college is rented out to Sematech? Is this facility going to staffed mostly by Sematech?
Definitely great stuff for Albany, both University and City. UA is in a position to make boatloads of cash off patents if things work out and it's great for Albany to have this much money being brought into the region. |

Re: OT: UAlbany - NANO
Massive announcement today. 4.4 billion dollars for Nano, $400 million over 5 years from the state DIRECTLY going to CNSE. Majority of the private 4 Billion dollar funding will be for the Albany area, a large growth in new jobs created, and the retention of nearly 2,500 jobs.
Albany also manages the CNSE facility located in Candiuguia that they mention. http://blog.timesunion.com/capitol/a...t-nanocollege/ |

Re: OT: UAlbany - NANO
UA and UA supporters have much to be proud of. This is another HUGE announcement.
EDIT: Update: Sen. Chuck Schumer released a statement in advance of the announcement: “Today marks a massive step forward in the Capital Region’s stunning ascension as the global epicenter in semiconductor research. This model private-public investment builds on our success with 300 mm technology, and ensures that New York will lead the industry for decades to come, bringing more and more economic vitality and high-quality jobs to upstate New York. We worked hard to get to this point, where the Capital Region’s economic future is not a plan or a proposal or a dream — it is a reality with its own internal energy momentum — and we have over four billion reasons to celebrate today. I applaud Governor Cuomo and the indefatigable Dr. Alain Kaloyeros for their vision and I want to welcome with open arms Intel to the Empire State. This incredible investment by Intel, GlobalFoundries, IBM, Samsung and TSMC means the sky is truly the limit for chip research and manufacturing in the Capital Region.”
