Re: 2013 America East Recruiting Thread

FYI looks like the Hoop Dreams Magazine prep tournament Feb 9 & 10 is going to be played at Curry College in Milton, MA and not Reggie Lewis Center in Boston:

http://hoopdreamsmag.com/?p=6638

Lee Academy plays at 12pm on Saturday and 10am on Sunday. Vermont Academy (Floras) and Beaver Country Day (Spellman) are also in the tournament. Brewster Academy is as well, and they are like watching a Big East or ACC college team.

Good for Maine and good to see AE schools continue to attract Canadian talent. If there is a region the AE might have a recruiting advantage it is the GTA and there has been a lot of talent from there lately.

I hope he is the Black Bear point guard of my dreams.

Maine hockey has historically recruited Canada very aggressively (moreso than, say, BC or BU), maybe the name brand carries over to hoops (not that Maine hockey is MAINE HOCKEY anymore).

Good article on Maine recruit Garret Beal and his late father: http://bangordailynews.com/2013/02/0...ng-his-father/

Lee Academy won both of its games this weekend at National Prep School Invitational. Beat TAAG Academy from FL on Saturday and Notre Dame Prep on Sunday.

No idea, everywhere I've seen has just mentioned his teammates, Charles Foster and Aaron Calixte.

Douse isn't a big scorer on this Lee team, and he may not even start (?).

Re: 2013 America East Recruiting Thread

If Douse doesn't start at Lee Academy I'm going to go out on a limb and claim he did NOT have an offer from Clemson. I am by no means trying to defame our future pg but I'm trying manage my expectations. I trust our coaching staff to recruit kids with character but something seems fishy about his list of schools that "offered."

Re: 2013 America East Recruiting Thread

Douse may start, they could go with a 3 guard lineup of Douse, Foster, Calixte. He may start some games and not others. I don't know, all I know is he's not the one scoring on that team. Makes sense since his job is to be the PG and play maker, but surprised I don't see him mentioned much.

I'd also add that Lee has a pretty good team. Foster was committed to Morehead State previously but they made a coaching change so he went to Lee. Calixte is being recruited by Temple, UMass, and has offers from Q-Pac and Towson. Bah is going to Drexel, another SG from either Serbia or Lithuania is committed to Bradley, and another big kid just committed to Monmouth.

Clemson also recruits Canada closely and I think the most intriguing part of Douse is his size- legit 6'4'' with good athleticism and length.

Carissimo is 6'3" and Elbaum is 6'4", so Douse is about the same size. In an interview I heard he sounded like he loves to play fast. We haven't seen much of that in a while.

FWIW, UVM's athletics website says Sandro is 6'2" and Josh 6'3".. there always seems to be some variation in how heights are measured/listed. Not significant, either way.

Re: 2013 America East Recruiting Thread

I'm tempering my expectations for the impact of both Douse and Steidl (who is a year younger for his class anyways) on next years team. Hoping both can make an impact right away and get into rotation, but realistically may not be until 2014-15. Douse probably has best chance to crack rotation given his position.

Minutes will be very tough to come by next season. Barring any transfers, it's going to be very competitive to get on the court. Big senior class (who all play) + Harold/Pierson are both eligible and 20mpg+ type players+ Kilpatrick will be a SO w/ a season under his belt in our system+ Taggart will be eligible as a RS FR to play.

Basically, 5 new players next year (Harold, Pierson, Taggart, Steidl, Douse) and only one player (Blue) graduating that sees significant minutes. Good problem to have I suppose.

I've been thinking this for awhile about our two recruits. Both could be very good players but I don't see a will he get his number retired debate with these two. They both will def be contributors as upper classmen. I don't see either getting a lot of minutes freshmen year. I think Douse will get like BK minutes 8 a game. I dont see Steidl playing with the depth at SF. We will have Voelkel, Harold, and BK playing the SF spot. I think BK will see some time at SG. I think we could afford to redshirt Steidl as we have Taggart as an insurancy policy on the wing.

RS Steidl could be a possibility since he can add strength and he's younger, however that would add to an already massive graduating class that will be incoming for 2014. If the team wants some balance as to avoid a huge concentrated class again, wouldn't make sense to RS Steidl.

It's good to have these kinds of options though.

I know I thought about the huge 2014 class we will have. I wouldnt be suprised to see a couple transfers come in with that 6 man class. I hope we can get another 5th year senior to play right away.

IF we get two transfers and we redshirt a 2014 recruit we will have a 3 man class and Steidl will make 4. That would work out fine. We can def work around redshirting Steidl. I def think Steidl needs his body to mature for the next level. He won't physically be there freshmen year. RS him will def be based on how comfortable we feel with Taggart. IF we like what we see from Taggart to start the year we can afford to.
