Re: 2013 America East Recruiting Thread
He's obviously a very talented player, but his comment points to a thought process that says "I'm into the name/conference of the school, not where I fit best" attitude so prevalent today. One look at the Transfer List, and where most kids transfer to (usually a lower level) shows that too many are choosing schools for the wrong reasons. I find it comical how most kids mention how they want to "get back closer to home", but really it's about going to the schools that actually had serious interest in them from jump street, and many times that is the more local schools....

The kid has 10 offers from a lot of great schools from different levels of D1, and I get these kids are young and say stupid stuff- but that would turn me off a bit. It's about finding the situation that's best for him and him only- it's not about what his buddy Kris Dunn is doing. Hope he has the right people around him that can help him figure it out.

It'd be interesting to really examine kids who "transfer down" a level, and see where they were ranked in various recruiting rankings, where they were assessed compared to others in their recruiting class, etc. My guess is that while some kids definitely were reaching, a lot of them made choices that at the time, people who make a lot of money off of basketball would have told you were good moves. There's a lot to this, on both sides. |

Re: 2013 America East Recruiting Thread
the only thing i can think about dukes that may be a bright spot is that he may just want to get as many offers as possible and is a hungry kid. its either he wants to go high-major and doesnt want to play low major or he wants to show that just because he has a few offers doesnt mean he done trying to get more.
i'm guessing he prolly wants to go high major but dont count out the hunger of the kid. He may just be motivated to prove to every school they should take him even though he already has a school he likes. |

Re: 2013 America East Recruiting Thread
I'm just as interested in Adrian Oliviera as I am Dukes. Dukes is very fast, quick- but he's also definitely more of a combo guard and a "scoring" PG. That doesn't seem to fit our system of PG's. At 150lbs, Dukes is also pretty small.
Oliviera is taller, and stronger. Probably more physically ready to handle contact in the lane.

Re: 2013 America East Recruiting Thread
Dukes is more of a pure shooter but Olivera is a pure PG, taller, stronger and plays above the rim. He also just received All-League honors in NEPSAC AA which is loaded with talent. I believe thats voted by coaches so that means something. he's in good company,

Re: 2013 America East Recruiting Thread
Here is a recent interview with Dukes where he pretty much says that he's trying do better than Kris Dunn. This kid is obviously going to pick a conference and not the school.

![]() Hey, you don't need to sell me on Oliveira. I live 5min from Brimmer and May and have seen him play. I definitely like his game. Last PG we got from Pawtucket turned out pretty nice too

Re: 2013 America East Recruiting Thread
what i got from the dukes interview was that he wants to be seen as a high major player but doesnt necessarily want to go high major. he just wants to get mentioned as a high major talent.

Seems to be a lot more forwards I've read for 2013. Kurt Steidl from Ridgefield, CT being my favorite- followed by Harrison Taggart and Skyler White.
