Re: OT: Marqus Blakely 1/6 He owns it!
Leslie and MB23 on the floor at the end. Leslie as the point guard just absolutely iced Marqus - looked his way once in 4 mins. Gotta think they either keep Leslie or cut both

Re: OT: Marqus Blakely 1/6 He owns it!
Yeah NBA.com was wrong (surprise surprise) and both Leslie and Marqus ended up getting in for nearly the exact same amount of garbage time (3 minutes and change). Marqus had a steal, and I thought played decent D but that was about all to write home about. I'll be pleasantly shocked if they waive Leslie instead of him.

Re: OT: Marqus Blakely 1/6 He owns it!
I think if they waived Leslie they would have to pay him $250K (?)
It comes down to do the Clippers want 4 SG's on the roster- Billups, Crawford, Green, Leslie or 4 SF Butler, Grant Hill, Matt Barnes, Blakely. Given Grant Hill's injury history Blakely could make more sense. Given Willie Green was someone they traded for and one of last people they acquired, not much vote of confidence for Leslie it would seem. It would seem positionally would make more sense to keep Blakely- he's bigger and has more upside, but I'm obviously biased. We're talking about the 15th man.

Re: OT: Marqus Blakely 1/6 He owns it!
The last 3-4 minutes showed why you keep a player like Blakely over Leslie as a 15th man. Everyone on the Clippers can score- they don't need that. They need someone that can make a great tip steal. Grab a board. Defend.
Leslie is a better perimeter scorer than Marqus now, but one dimensional- but the Clippers don't need another scorer. The only reason they keep Leslie is if they feel he can develop into an NBA SG- but I don't know why they would also trade for Willie Green if they felt that Leslie could do that. I dunno- its still a real long shot, but I feel much better about his chances now than I did earlier today.

My only hope is that if the Clippers do intend on waiving him, they do it now and don't wait until literally last minute when final rosters are due to league office. At least he'd have a few days to try and land somewhere. Chris Douglas Roberts was recently waived and picked up by the Mavericks.

I'd love to see him make the team, and in the scheme of things he'd be a low-risk investment. What would they pay him? 200k? 400k? I believe there's a minimum salary for undrafted players, right? I guess it could ultimately be more than he'd make in a year overseas. IMO, it would just suck to become a practice player at the end of the bench waiting for garbage time. It's easy for me to say Europe makes more sense- he'd make less money but be guaranteed minutes, but it's probably been a lifelong dream of his to play in the NBA. |

Re: OT: Marqus Blakely 1/6 He owns it!
Per HoopsHype Rumors, Blakely waived by Clippers.
Really no surprise given their guaranteed contracts. Hopefully his agent can hustle and see if they can find a team- someone like Hornets or Bobcats. Will be hard because he played in just 3 games for a total of about 13min so who knows if anyone picks him up.
