Hartford makes a change
This will probably be boring for most of you but ...that being said...Hartford,for as long as I can remember had a preseason golf tourney kickoff for their men's program. It was usually held the end of August and presented the coming year's schedule, while players from the team were at contest holes(closest to the pin, longest drive, etc).Always a good crew of oldies but goodies attended(Vin Baker,Walt Luckett-he was the leading CT high school basketball scorer for YEARS and is very good friends with Harrison-Larry always said that he guarded Luckett in high school and thought he did a great job on him and was able to hold him to 45 pts).
This year they are not having the tourney(I need to find out why exactly). They are instead having a tip-off dinner on 10/17(now that I think about it...is that the night of midnight madness?).They are honoring their division 2 teams that night as well.Probably a smart move in trying to get their interest in the current teams. In the past few years they seemed to have reached out to some of their past players as I see a number of them at the games with their kids. They need to go to another level with this and make the past players feel like they are a part of the family.
Another note is that Larry Harrison's secretary has unfortunately resigned to take another opportunity(more of a pain for me as she helped organize things for me and became friendly with my wife and daughter).
Not too long before we see some magazines start coming out. Still about 3 months away though before Blue Ribbon comes out(my bible).
