I don't believe red shirt players are allowed to travel with team to away games, so I doubt he makes the trip.

Plus, it's 7-8 hours from home with no easy way back.

Interesting. I know they can practice but I've read a bunch of places players can't travel- maybe each school has their own rules? - and I've never seen a RS dress (why would they?)

That being said, UVM is 7-8 hours away and there is simply no easy way to get back. That is far too difficult of a hurdle to overcome. Insurmountable.

Is he a redshirt? Redshirts are eligible to play but just aren't. Did Four get a waiver so he's eligible to play this year, but is choosing to redshirt? Or is this his NCAA mandated year off after transferring?

Traveling is up to the discretion of the school.

Schools sometimes dress a kid and don't play him - just in case (what ccd said).

Skerry said Towson wouldn't seek a waiver, and their AD tweeted as much about it.

Mandate year after Transfer, NCAA rules prohibit play- so transfer redshirt. I've seen redshirt used interchangeably with transfer.

Towson won't be seeking a waiver because they are ineligible for post season next year because of their merked APR

Ah. So step two, do NCAA rules differentiate between how you treat a Freshman/Medical redshirt and a transfer redshirt?

Like, is Four on scholarship or paying his own way? Can you take transfers and pay their way like normal, or are they just treated like students who practice with the team?

So, I doubt he'll make the UVM/Towson game next season in Patrick on his own coin. Besides, there's simply no easy way to get to Burlington- just none. 70%-80% of the student body is from out of state, they must just have better problem solving skills.

The general word around Orono is that the Black Bears do in fact intend to field a men's basketball team next year.

I dunno. Sorry, I may have hit capacity on my NCAA minutiae today. If the NCAA made this stuff easily searchable on its website I would take the minute or so to look it up.

My understanding is he's on scholarship. All transfers are on scholarship. I think any student-athlete that transfers has to sit out, whether they pay or not- but I don't know. I think it's pretty rare for a scholarship athlete to transfer to a school they would have to pay to play at- but I suppose it's possible?

I've always been under the impression a freshman/medical/transfer red shirt were treated the same- maybe there are some differences.

Yes, it's possible. Monmouth is getting a transfer from Univ. of South Carolina who is paying his own way the first year because they don't have any schollys left.

Regardless of their scholasrhip status, players must sit out 1 year if they are transfering from another D-I institution.

That is what happened at Hartford with Adeleke. He had to pay his way the first year while sitting out as a transfer redshirt. Then he got the scholy his second year.

We might have talked about this before .....the opening CT 6 tourney this year is on Saturday 11/10 but is being played at Chase Arena this year instead of the Mohegan Sun. I must say that bums me out as I have enjoyed that venue for this tourney. Now from a business perspective it makes sense. Last year (albeit playing on a workday Friday) it was EMPTY.

Additionally on Dec 20th Hartford is hosting a men's women's double header at Chase. First game is the women against UConn. Very cool UConn is playing at Chase. Then the Hartford men take on Sacred Heart.

Yeah, the CT-6 on a Saturday works much better for basketball. Getting to either Bridgeport or the casino on a Friday late afternoon/evening is a tough commute for most people. However, Yale and CCSU (and to a lesser degree SHU) play football on Saturdays and care a lot about those games as well. On that Saturday, Yale hosts Princeton, CCSU hosts Bryant, and SHU hosts Robert Morris.

The tourney is at Chase because your AD threatened to pull the Hawks out and kill the tourney if they put it back at the Mohegan. The other 5 schools folded and agreed to play this year at Hartford. Wonder where they will play it the next 2 years.

The UConn women haven't played at an in-state school since 1991 at Fairfield. The Lady Huskies last trip to Detrick to play CCSU was in 1988. A very good game for Hartford to get!
