Here's a prop for UVM success this season and Trey Blue is predicted to be a big part of it.

I hadn't really looked at his film before but I'm impressed now!

Rumor has it that Trey is flat our killing our other guards in practice. I believe the term, head and shoulders better was also used. If that's the case, I really like the depth in our backcourt. These could be the kind of athletes that can get us a marquis win or two this season.

By the way, I bumped into a couple of the women's players last week, they said the Green and Gold tipoff is October 20th.

That's pretty awesome news- especially when you consider how good both Sandro and Rusin are

Not surprised to hear that though- Blue is a player. One of the things about Blue that sticks out, besides a ton of experience at different levels of HS and D1 ball, is how strong he is. He can get to the rim and score with contact no problem. That's something UVM teams typically do not have in its back court- a strong, physical guard. Blue is fast and strong attacking the hoop- can shoot too.

I've been thinking about this kid recently. I learned a little about him when I first heard he was coming to Vermont. He's got a child back in the Chicago area and had a tough time leaving him, but really wanted to make the most of his last year of eligibility, and possibly have a better shot at a career in basketball by having a bigger role with us.... And therefore provide a better life for his son... So this really could be a make or break year and I hope he gets a ton of support from the local community... Would be a great story for Fantino to pick up..

Re: 2012-2013 Vermont Catamount Thread!

Back in 2008 Blue reportedly had offers from Fordham (where he went), Drake, Northern Iowa, Old Dominion, Richmond, Tulsa, and Santa Clara.

He reportedly had interest from Arkansas, Clemson, Northwestern, Penn State, Purdue, Seton Hall, Southern Illinois, Stanford, Harvard, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, and Xavier.

I don't think his basketball career has gone the way he had planned back in 2008- he probably didn't imagine he'd be in Burlington, VT in 2012-13- but I'm really glad it worked out via McGlynn's transfer and his graduate eligibility- the connection with Apfeld at Brewster- and that he has a final season to have a great opportunity. I hope it's a great fit and he enjoys UVM and has a great season.

Definite Fantino material- I also hope the community really gets behind him. Looking forward to seeing him play this season.

The biggest thing to look out for next year is the back court. We will have 5 guards that all get minutes. You have to imagine there will be plenty of people in Four's ear this off-season- I imagine a lot of people will want to talk to the only player in the NCAA that led his team on scoring from the bench. I obviously hope nobody leaves but you never know. Have to imagine reports on places like Recruit Scoop for 2012 guards has only been insurance, can't imagine we'd add a 6th guard to next years squad.

Bald seemed like he was willing to accept his role this year which is good. I don't think we'll go back to the Bald 30+ min again. I think the coaching staff did a great job handling the situation and easing him into a reduced role but still allowing him to start. Smart.

Really hope this team stays intact, because it could continue to be special.

Bump.

Re-reading the beginning of this thread is pretty interesting. I think this was created right after the loss to North Carolina- pretty crazy to see how much change occurred in terms of players in such a short period of time. I also think I knew all along Four was going to transfer- just didn't want to say it.

The last time I attended a "midnight madness" event was when I was in school, back when there were 300-500 people that would attend week day games.

Anyways, thinking about coming to the tip-off event this year and can't find details on it yet- for those that have gone, how child-friendly is it?

Thanks.

Re: 2012-2013 Vermont Catamount Thread!

I went two years ago and there were not many folks there. Great to see the players and watch some ball but I must say it was pretty informal. The line-up two years ago was this:

Girls Scrimmage
Guys Scrimmage
Co-ed scrimmage
Dunk Contest

I don't think there was anything for a child to do at the tip-off but there plenty of room to run around on the bleachers because it's not that well attended.

Thanks, sounds like something that would work. Wasn't sure if there was anything kid-specific with the players at all, but he's still pretty young for that anyways.

They do a three point shooting contest too.

It's definitely a family friendly atmosphere. I've been for the last few years.

Team photo. Couple things:

1) Pierson is a giant

2) Rugg looks like he may have grown 1-2 inches

3) Would not want to have to arm wrestle Trey Blue. Or Voelkel (duh)

I might throw Candin Rusin in the mix of guys I'm not interested in arm wrestling. He's pretty cut up as well.
