Um, what are you talking about "for a whole school year"? Looks like he will have some sort of announcement by the end of THIS summer for schools that will be joining next year...unless I'm missing something.

?? Yeah, if he announces it at the end of Summer 2012, to join for the 13-14 year, the AE could just ban SBU during the 12-13 school year. What am I missing? |

Re: CAA membership
Another example how you continue even on your way out try to bully someone into doing what you want. Again, I'd let you out immediately with no penalty...good bye. There is only one incompetent bafoon in all this and that's Lynch...should have pulled a VCU, I wouldn't have blamed you one bit. He knew of the rule, got his bluff called and now are resorting to bully tactics.
If anything this will probably even more piss of the league, I know it motivated me to send an e-mail to my AD.

The AE regs specify that schools must give TWO years' notice. So, if SBU violates that reg like BU did, they they should fully expect the league to ban them from the postseason, too - and they will have no one to blame other than themselves! if SBU gives two years' notice, and the AE bans them, then you can complain - and I'd be more sympathetic. |

That's what I'd do if I were Fiore, follow the rules to the letter, take the high ground. NO WAY the AE wants a leaving team to stay for 2 years.

Re: CAA membership
Am I missing something? Are people on here saying BU should have said they were staying for 2 years and then left? From my understanding (and this comes from several people close to the situation at both BU and in the Patriot League), BU was between a rock and a hard place: They were basically told by the PL "Now or Never" - join for the 12-13 season being their only option (couldn't delay it 2 years, and couldn't join any earlier). So BU's only 2 options were to tell the AE right now and face the ban, or try to keep it quiet, hope word didn't get out, play out the season, and then drop the bombshell on the league next summer.
I don't think there was really a "win-win" possible scenario. |

Re: CAA membership
Then they weren't in a rock and a hardplace. They were in a position of making a commercial decision with risks.
They took it. I don't feel sorry for anyone. They didnt have to leave if what I am hearing is true about other things with regards to the SUNY's. |

Re: CAA membership
Has any non-BU fan gone over and checked out the threads in the "revamped" Patriot League forum? I read through a couple and I don't know if it's me or what, but it certainly appears as though there are a few posters on there with a huge "holier than thou" attitude. It's hard to tell when just reading words what exactly the tone is supposed to be, but wow...
Anyway, BU should have said we are giving our 2 years notice (with a wink & a nod to the PL powers that be) and I would bet my life that the AEast would have told BU to leave early as all the other members would have wanted a lame duck program gone (what NUHoop Fan was alluding to above). I also find the petition to be ridiculous...seriously, you chose to turn your back on the league & do what you feel is in the best interest of your own personal program (completely understandable), so what on earth would you expect the rest of the league members to do? Just sit there and take it? Don't give me this "poor student-athlete" crap either...you knew the league by-laws (hell, you were most likely part of the process of drawing the damn papers up) and the impact it would have on the program and student-athletes. They still get their scholarships, housing, food, classes, books, travel opportunities, competition, etc...I think they will survive.

As for the worth of the petition, I personally think it will do nothing, but I do believe the students who started it are doing a good thing - they want their fellows to be able to compete for championships. Do you really think that is BS?

Petitioning the league - emphatically, yes. I feel for them. They got screwed, but they got screwed because their own administrators put the perceived best interests of future BU students over their own. If they want to petition for something, they should petition to get their administrators fired for disregarding their interests. |

Re: CAA membership
Yes! They can want whatever it is they want...their vitriol is misdirected. This is nothing but the latest attempt by BU to strong-arm the conference even on their way out. If I may offer a bit on conjecture, I'd bank on this being pushed hard by BU athletic leadership and coaches, I'm not buying for a minute BU doesn't have their hand in this petition.
If the remaining schools have any balls left they will tell BU to go kick rock. BU students should be looking at their own leadership who were FULLY aware of the ramifications of their decision and should have planned accordingly by vacating the AE immediately. I wouldn't blame you one bit...this is business, right? This increases the chance of every other school to get to the NCAA so everyone is as expected acting in their own best interest, no different then what BU is doing. Enjoy the Patriot League.
