Who's to say Charleston or Drexel or NU or Wilmington or Towson can't be the next "THAT" school?

No, we're not replacing VCU, circa 2011-12. However, who on this board would have thought that two CAA teams would play in the Final Four since NU left the conference?

Let's all put this stuff in perspective.

I wasn't saying anything bad...just that the league is definitely having to re-invent itself yet again. If Mason were to leave (seems more and more unlikely if they haven't gotten an invite yet), then the CAA would have some larger issues.

My thoughts were more directed at Hofstra as it appears as though they have fallen off the earth athleticially. Speedy Claxton, where are you?

There's no burning desire to go to 12 for the sake of 12.

I've said this before and I'll say it again. The CAA can get SBU, Albany, Elon, High Point, etc. whenever they want, there's no other real place to go if they want to go up. Davidson is the perfect non-football (CAA playing that is) school, but they're probably a pipe dream. App State is good for football, and brings another southern school in play. But App State requires one more team. Keep that in mind.
Oops, my math was off. But this was the point I was trying to make.

If the CAA gets Charleston and just stays at 10 for hoops, does CAA Football still consider adding 2 more for FB-only to get to 12 on the football side?

By adding Charleston (full member), UA & SBU (FB-only) this gets the CAA to 10 on both the hoops and football side. Any additions would have to be made in pairs. This is the one reason I have limted hope that URI & CCSU are brought on as a pair for FB.

I have to agree with Jeff on this...you get some good media markets when it comes to the CAA but in reality, how much coverage does the CAA really get in Philly, Baltimore, DC? I know there's the TV deal but if I'm a potential new member, I would like to know how many games "I" will get on TV and would also like to see the viewership numbers from previous years before I make a decision. You can have a sweet TV deal but if my team is only on once or twice and the numbers show that nobody was watching, how much does that really help anything?

If I'm Davidson, I'm wondering how this would put us in a better situation than we are in considering we were in the NCAA's last year as it was. They are currently the top dog in their conference. App State...I absolutely cannot see them wanting to put themselves in a position to have to pay $1 million bucks when they finally get that FBS invite they covet. We know they will get it eventually...

Has App State ever been mentioned as a football-only member? I have only seen them listed as a potential full member.

I really like the looks of this football league:

North
Maine
UNH
URI
CCSU
Albany
Stony Brook

South
Villanova
Delaware
Towson
Richmond
William & Mary
James Madison

5 divisional games, 3 cross-over games...travel costs are very well maintained for everybody. At most, you would be looking at just 2 flight trips/year for any team.

As a CCSU fan, that is exactly what I'm hoping for, and I think it is a real possiblity if the CAA "holds" at just adding Charleston as a full member.

As for travel, it is ok with Central. I know it may be different for UNH and Maine becuase you are further North, but CCSU (and possibly URI, UA, and SBU) would likely bus to all those "Southern" schools leaving Thur late/Fri early. JMU & Richmond are the farthest, but that is about an 8-hour bus ride from New Britain, or almost the same as our trips to RMU/SFPA/Duq.

I am just glad that stonybrook said no to all sports going caa; It keeps the SUNY's together. For a person that grew up in ny I think it is great to see rivalries starting.

I agree with your sentiments! I think the Aeast is going to come out of this more stable then when all of this talk began and now if the Aeast can just add two schools to give us an even ten going forward I think were in good shape. I'm really interested now as there is no more BU excuse or blame, how the league is going to become better. What are the plans of this adminstration and all of the school administrations. No more excuses and blaming BU, its now time to get the job done! In terms of adding two more schools the sexy pic seems to be the Q but I have been saying for many weeks on this board we need a travel partner for UMBC. Who would UMBC fans like to see join us?

Well, it's pretty slim picking if you're looking for someone in that area...

Maryland schools:
Loyola (MD) - they won't leave the MAAC
Mt St Mary's - smaller school..would they leave the NEC?

Delaware schools:
Delaware State

Virginia:
Hampton

D.C.:
Howard

Suppose you could look at southern New Jersey at a Rider but I doubt they would move either.

I'm throwing Delaware State out there as a long shot pick...........unfortunately, they have the "football problem" as well.

If we wait long enough, Delaware and Towson could fall in our lap.......that's another long shot at this point though. I definitely think that AE should cap expansion at 10 now due to unforeseen circumstances that could take place over the next few years.

I don't see many good fits there........maybe DSU. That's about it. Q, CCSU, Bryant and Monmouth would all be better picks than anyone else in that group.

I agree...unless you can get a Towson or Delaware which you said just above, I really don't think there is a very good travel partner for UMBC. There just aren't many to choose from in the mid-Atlantic area around Maryland/DC/Virginia.

Does Towson have FBS aspirations like Delaware? If not, they may ultimately find themselves looking to move back to the AE if Delaware and JMU move up. Towson fits really well with the current AE schools.
