Love it! Keeps the band together in the Aeast and gives UNH and Maine some quality Northern conference foes!

Re: CAA membership

Interesting - Albany's splash screen includes URI, while Stony Brook's does not.

Albany Athletics Director Lee McElroy

“The invitation to join the CAA is reflection of the outstanding leadership of President Phillip. UAlbany football, under Bob Ford, is excited to compete in the top FCS conference in the nation. Our student-athletes, fans, alums, and staff look forward to promoting the tradition, pride, and achievement of the Great Danes.”

Stony Brook Athletics Director Jim Fiore

“We are honored by this opportunity to become a member of CAA Football. We will now compete in arguably the most challenging and respected conference in the Football Championship Subdivision, while also allowing us to continue to develop regional rivalries through conference participation. Stony Brook Football has come very far, very fast over the last five years, and now is the time to elevate our program further and to put ourselves in a position to win national championships. The CAA has a clear pedigree and built an unrivaled tradition of excellence, and I am confident that under Coach Chuck Priore’s leadership, our football program will continue to grow and annually compete for league and national championships as members of the CAA. Clearly, as we join this outstanding conference today, our best days are ahead of us."
This is why I love Fiore. Building that Hype...

Re: CAA membership

Very impressed that UNH and Maine apparently made an ultimatum. They accurately concluded that they could destroy CAA football by leaving and forced the league's hand. I'm happy for them and the CAA northern schools.

Now just flex your muscles a little bit more and bring back URI and add CCSU

Looks like CCSU may have to wait a while.......at least on the football side of things. If I'm a CCSU fan, I'm rooting for 2 or 3 more to leave CAA Football. I honestly don't see it happening though other than JMU.

From what I was told by folks in Richmond, only one of those two schools had the power to stand behind an ultimatum. I believe other posters on the board can confirm.

Regardless, good move to solidify CAA football. I also agree with MJ, the only school now at real risk of bailing is JMU.

However, if the MAC offered Delaware, and for some reason UMass was forced to join for all sports, they'd probably go. I don't think Delaware joins the MAC without another quasi-eastern school.

Agreed.

Everyone knows that UNH was exploring a move to the Patriot.........but honestly, if the CAA lost UNH then they would have lost Maine as well (to the NEC). So in effect, both were able to stand as one even though they would have been ticketed for different leagues had it all played out.

I'm happy it worked out the way it did. UNH belongs in the Aeast with their regional partners! I didn't want to see UNH leave the Aeast or the CAA for football.

Im also happy it worked out the way it did. Let's now go out and add a couple schools. (CCSU and whoever are my favorites)

On a side note - I think its very sad and petty tht Dane96 and NU Hoops Fan have chosen to just move on and ignore this thread after I offered block buster proof that SB was offered full membership. I produced the "Zapruder Film" of invite evidence and they still are going to say Oswald acted alone. Well no! Damnit! There was another gunman on the grassy gnoll and I proved it!
