Re: CAA membership
Yeager says that even if University of Rhode Island rejoins the CAA for 2013 its very unlikely there will be a North/South division. Having a Conference Championship game
at the FCS is disallowed according to the talk

Re: CAA membership
It's not that it's disallowed (the SWAC has one and despite not participating in the playoffs, they are still FCS), it's just that you can't schedule it and still play the playoffs, unless you want to remove everyone's bye week or play one fewer regular season game.

Re: CAA membership
No...it's actually disallowed.
I have reviewed this in the past. You cannot have a conference championship game and play in the playoffs. It has NOTHING to do with the playoff timing or bye week. |

Re: CAA membership
While you may not be able to have a championship game to crown a league champion, you may still have divisions for scheduling purposes. Have a team play each team in its regional division every season to cut down on travel expenses and rotate any additional league games versus teams from the other division. Continue to use the current format to select your champion without a playoff.

Re: CAA membership
They are not committing to divisional play because of Delaware. We all know that they run the show over there. They do not want to be stuck in the North and do not want to be in the opposite division as Villanova. If they went to a divisional scheduling format, either Nova or Delaware would have to placed in the North now that "Northern" sacrificial lamb Georgia State is gone.
For those that haven't followed the CAA as closely as I have, what Delaware wants........Delaware gets. That being said, I have no doubt that the Northern teams will be playing the Northern teams. |

Re: CAA membership
But because it must be listed on every team's schedule, that would either eliminate every team's bye week, or limit each team to a ten-game regular season, costing many of them a home game; that is the championship game must be scheduled in place of, not in addition to, a regular-season game.

Re: CAA membership
In a surprising move...Loyola of the MAAC dumps them and is moving to the Patriot league. Gotta say, Patriot making some great moves.

Re: CAA membership
WOW- Loyola(MD)I guess the PL entrance academic standards aren't as tough as some would want to have you believe. That being said, seems like a good fit overall in terms of everything else- enrollment size, geography, etc. Makes sense for Loyola (MD).
