Re: Four McGlynn requests Transfer!
In addition to scholarships, You guys also have a couple recruits coming in that are both SG/or at least one is a combo guard that are pretty highly touted from the VA/DC area also.
I mentioned GW more tongue in cheek than anything, though the Lonergan relationship is there I'd be completely surprised if he ended up at GW.

I think we'll be okay without Four, although obviously it's a significant loss. Good luck to him; I wonder if the grass wherever he ends up really will be greener. |

The silver lining is that even with losing Bald and now Four, we still have a SG remaining that was all-rookie MAAC and is already accustomed/experienced to playing starters minutes at the D1 level in Rusin.

Re: Four McGlynn requests Transfer!
What I'm looking forward to hearing is why he's decided to transfer now- because at one point I'm sure he was leaning that way, then changed his mind, but some new action or new information has had to come up that has led him to choose this path because seriously, the kid was doing individual drills with coaching staff right up until the end of school. I think there are a few possible issues that could be at play, and all are speculation on my end:
*A school reached out that they thought was too good to pass up- because whether some of you believe it or not, Four is certainly talented enough to play up a few levels. The AE as a collective whole is pretty low in that respect- and maybe that's part of the problem. *Maybe UVM was recruiting other SG's and was planning on bringing another impact guard in...don't know, but possible. Just speculation, maybe they reached out to players like Grennan and now Carroll.....who knows. *Maybe after he got home back to PA, he and his father decided it would be best to move on, because clearly there were issues over minutes or other things during the season that maybe it never really got resolved to the point they felt comfortable going forward.

I know you're new to the conference and Vermont basketball, but Look up the career of Joe Trapani at UVM/ Boston College when you get a second- we've had losses like this before. We also lost Garvey Young from our 09-10 NCAA squad- who was a starter and made most definitely a Four-like impact but on the Defensive side of the court.

Re: Four McGlynn requests Transfer!
Things will get much harder next year. The loss of McGlynn and Glass to graduation is going to put a hurting on our offense. Outside shooting is a huge priority with whomever they bring in.

For me however, being somewhat new to the conference, I get to look at things w/out any preconceived notions/favorites, which I'm not sure you (or any other real fan) can do about their own program. Any team in the NCAA, save perhaps a hi-major w/ multiple top 100 kids, can lose a SOPHOMORE who's their top scorer, 3-point shooter, and best offensive weapon, and it not be a huge blow to their program. Now, can it be minimized by bringing in a similar recruit next year? Certainly, but for right now, IMO, this late in the off-season, this is huge for UVM. Perception is reality to the basketball world, and losing 4 players PLUS Bald from a tournament team, at the very least, raises some questions. If McGlynn, who got minutes, shots, and very good playing time as a Frosh leaves, what does that say? Again, we are probably dickering over semantics here, but I stand by my opinion, as do you no doubt. "All good in the hood", I say........one other thing: I'm not sold that he will thrive a couple levels above the AE. While I think he can certainly play at a higher level, I do know that his size/defensive liabilities/lack of PG skills make him an undersized SG who brings one "plus" skill to the table. Again, can he play above the AE? Yes he can! Can he duplicate what he did this year for UVM a couple levels above? I have serious doubts, at least on a team that has any hope of winning at that level.......just one man's opinion. |

Re: Four McGlynn requests Transfer!
+1
This is solid...yeah, we can't blame Lonergan so I'll just blame Dennis Wolff.
