My HS history teacher was the recruiting coordinator for Yale baseball in the 1980s and 1990s, so he told us how the AI worked. He was bitter that he wasn't able to get Mike Remlinger into Yale because of the AI. Remlinger went to Dartmouth.

Re: Boston University to Patriot League Official
Well, I'm going to disagree with most here. I am a Stony Brook resident who diligently follows their sports programs, and I am a graduate of Syracuse. I have seen first hand how a powerful sports program can feed the academic programs, and vice-versa.
I think that BU's move is a total lateral move, and may even hurt their athletic programs, which can have a spill-over effect on their academics. The Patriot league may have a bit stronger academics than the AE, but BU's move to the Patriot basically tells me that their academics are more important than their sports programs (not that anything is wrong with that, mind you). I think this move will be construed by many as a lack of vote of confidence for BU's sports programs. I think it will hurt their recruiting, and will have an overall slightly negative effect on the University as a whole. Very surprised at this move, and question the long-term benefit of them doing this. Jim Fiore is the wunderkind of Stony Brook. He has amazingly put Stony Brook on the sports map, and he is an incredible asset to the University. He is a mover and a shaker, and he will undoubtedly take advantage of SBU's recent sports success to move to a more prestigious conference. BU's move to the PL solidifies this, IMO. Stony Brook's only concern right now is making sure that they keep Jim Fiore happy, as his stock has gone way, way up. It looks like he wants to stay @ SBU, since he didn't take the Minnesota AD job, which was rumored to be his. He has very lofty sights and goals, and there is absolutely no reason that he will not attain them. You might think I'm crazy, but I can see SBU in the Big East in 10 years. If anyone should be worried, it's Vermont, who might be left holding the bag. Quinnipiac, NJIT, etc. will be very willing to come aboard the AE, but this helps no one in the AE, IMO, and hurts Vermont the most. |

Re: Boston University to Patriot League Official
Let's settle down a bit on the Fiore wonderkind.
I would love to have him, don't get me wrong as I have no confidence in my AD....but Fiore has one thing going (well two): His big mouth and his drive, aka ego. Other than that, SBU has done what they have because of multiple sugar daddies only one of which can loosely be tied to Fiore- NATHAN. The rest were all courtesy of one Senator and one former Professor. MONEY TALKS. And make no mistake about it. FIORE isn't long for SBU. Jump or no jump for SBU in conference...that guy is Big Time Conference bound sooner rather than later. |

Why should UA take a back seat to them? Missed the commissioner cup by what like 3 points this season and have been consistently 2nd or 3rd and the only program to beat BU in the last 10 years. If SBU want's to be the flagship program of the AE they'll have to take it. Not only do we compete well on the field but also in the classroom and all of our programs are clean...mens team had the highest team GPA just this season...why can't UA go blow for blow with SBU? Almost have the scholarships in football at their place we went blow for blow with them.

Re: Boston University to Patriot League Official
What has Ron Lavalle given Stony Brook that hasn't been offered to Albany? I recently read on the Albany board that around the same time Stony Brook built Lavalle stadium, NYS gave Albany money they could have used for a stadium but they built a fine arts building instead. Now Albany is getting a stadium and Stony Brook is renovating their arena. Everything else happening at Stony Brook has been financed by donations.

Second...if you don't know...leave the board now. That said, let me enlighten you grasshopper. You guys got $50 million b/w LaValle and the Arena. You also got a new lax/field hockey and track and field set up for $3million. State funded if I remember correctly. Your baseball field...STATE FUNDED. Joe gave $500k. Stony Brook swimming pool...money coming from the State to renovate that. You got new Deco tennis courts. State funded. Bottom line...you have gotten just about 60 million from the State to construct athletic facilities. We got 16-18 million from the State...total..for the stadium and that includes a rec facility and a track and field stadium. The rest is privately funded. We got $2million for our lax field...with $250k coming from a private donation to add to that number. The Boor Sculpture Studio cost something like 4 million. So...we got a cool 24 million. Seriously, do I need to continue this? Last edited by Dane96; 06-19-2012 at 07:48 PM. |

Read. And if you don't know something...don't speak to it like its fact.
At least Salty has panache. BTW...Salty, you gotta go roll-heads at SBU. Apparently, we are your biggest rivals. Wikipedia says so. |
