The biggest question is what direction does One Bid Wonders go in now?

I'm indifferent about this move but I will say I think the biggest beneficiary of this move is SBU. If SBU moves to the CAA, than they are obviously getting a conference upgrade. If they stay in the AE, they are poised to be the top team in the conference/win the commissioner cup every year (with the only real competition being Albany).

We've done better and been more of a threat year in and year out...if they go UA will dominate this midget conference from that standpoint...they will be our biggest threat though if they stay.

Being the tallest midget beats being the shortest midget...It's all I got!

Re: Boston University to Patriot League Official

NU played its least season in the AE as a lame duck. There was no rule at the time about prohibiting us from competing. From what I heard from my friends at the CAA, the CAA is the ONLY league to have that "if you're leaving you can't compete" rule. So I think The Terriers are safe.

When NU joined the CAA, our first choice was actually the PL - but they wouldn't have us - at the time our academics weren't up to par for them.

I've said this to my friends who are BU Alumni. This is a GREAT move for BU. One I wished NU could have made in 2005 (don't get me wrong, I love being in the CAA). For Olympic sports, costs go up a smidge, but the competition levels probably aren't that different. For hoops, it's probably a wash.

Optically, and this is NO offense to anyone - playing Holy Cross, Lehigh and Lafayette looks better to those in ivory towers than playing Maine, Hartford and UMBC.

I've got to think that BU heard that there was no CAA invite coming, and that SBU may be offered. Not wanting to be "stuck" in a conference that likely will be adding "lesser" academic schools (again, no offense to QC, Bryant, Monmouth, Jersey Tech, whomever) than currently exist in the PL - they made a strategic move. One that I really like.

Can't hate on their decision...for me it will be a first time as a fan going through this as I started following this conference and UA around 2005/06 it's gonna be weird as hell not seeing them after this season. And even more strange new teams...when SBU leaves it will really be a shock to the system as we've been joined at the hip since we got here. That will really be a sad day for me...I continue to hear that it will happen.

“Doctor Brown and I conferred on this for a long time,” said BU Athletic Director Mike Lynch. “The one thing that jumped out at us was the academic quality in the Patriot League was going to be a step toward the Ivy League, which is certainly something that played into our thinking as well as the stability of the Patriot League.”
...
Lynch said BU has been considering a move away from the America East on and off for the past three or four years. Conversations with the Patriot League became more intense within the past couple of months.

The Patriot League forum pretty much crapped out five years ago. Colgate is at http://www.voy.com/227566/

You're probably not interested in Lehigh Football Nation but Lehigh Sports Forums has subforums for basketball and wrestling.

Wow - the Voy boards. There's a blast from the past for us old-timers!

Congratulations to BU. I can't find any fault with the move. Wish them all the best.

So for those of us left, it feels like this move creates a bit of a power vacuum in the league. Which school or schools step up and try to assert some sort of direction? Does the league fall into "old" and "new" factions??

And now there won't be any more argument about the "real" BU in the AE!

You mean the ONLY BU in the AE. Someone's got to be the best French chef in Paducah, Kentucky.
