Well, I sure get the impression they don't like me... which is definitely too bad considering the amount of loyalty and love I have for the league (loyalty and love does not mean turning a blind eye when you think something is not right... which seems to be the big sticking point between me and the powers that be, see: Dickinson, Ben and my reactions vs the leagues, which is where all the hostilities seem to stem from).

However, if spite for me gets the league to a better place, I'll take it ! (Note that I am not being serious at all in speculating that hatred towards me will save the league).

Merge with another conference? Huh? Sam are you hearing anything about this? Wow this is getting to be quite the soap opera as the America East Turns!

Apparently, reading is not fundamental in this thread.

UVM = all State schools.

Seriously, what league would the AEast be merging with? The CAA? The NEC? The MAAC? The Patriot? The MEAC? The Ivies? I mean, none of those make ANY sense whatsoever.

But the Q...perfect add on for the MAAC. They fit the profile to a "T".
Here's the MAAC Commissioner on conference realignment.

Quote:
SienaSaintsBlog: Any concern, when you met with the Presidents and Athletic Directors, about the recent round of Conference realignment (CAA movement & Boston University to the Patriot League)?

Rich Ensor, MAAC Commissioner: We’ve been talking about it for over two years now with the presidents and have spent a lot of time and effort in terms of both examining internally what we look for in terms of member schools if opportunities present themselves and also how would we to react if we lose some schools for some reason. Not just doing the due diligence in today’s environment, obviously there’s been a lot of changes, so you don’t want to be caught unprepared. So we’ve done a lot of that work and we came in to the presidents with some suggestions, in terms of different strategies, and what the presidents have basically told me is that they’ve met separately and that they’re committed to each other, full disclosure, and a general commitment that nobody is actively seeking membership in any other conference. With that type of stability, which has typically been the case in the MAAC, the 10 schools are so similar in terms of size, budget, academic focus and mission. That they’re very very comfortable with each other. That’s good in terms of stability and continuity and when we look at other possible members – because we’ve said over a decade ago that we would go to 12 if the right schools were available. Well that list is relatively small because our average enrollment is about 4,000 undergrads and we have a bunch of ranges we work within as well, overall budget for athletics, and then there’s the academic filter as well. When we start looking at schools that fit our mold, there aren’t that many of them out there frankly. We did do some scenarios looking at member schools from a wide range of conferences, and if you look for instance at America East schools – by and large they’re all public and we want to stay private, so right off the bat you eliminate those that don’t fit that criteria. If you look at any of the privates, they’re typically much larger than us. Boston University, who just decided to go to the Patriot League, their undergraduate population is in the 8,000 range. The reason why that is so important is because, typically in private schools budgets are driven by enrollment. It’s just a fact of life. You’re only going to be able to spend a certain percentage of your revenues on athletics based on the number of students you can have that help fund the enterprise. So at the very basic level enrollment dictates a lot of what any school can do in terms of athletics.

Most of the schools that are readily available right now or at least in transition, those in the Colonial or the America East, are much much larger than us or are publics. So the list becomes fairly finite. And then some schools that we have typically been interested in; it’s no secret we’ve always been interested in LaSalle, for instance they were in the league at one point and were a good member, is not interested right now.

Those schools aren’t available for us to look at so at this point, we’re just sitting pat with our 10, knowing we have a pretty good league and pretty satisfied with each other and see where that leads in the short term and the long term but I think we’ll be successful.

Hypothetical Interview with the AE Commissioner...

Far from the Show: Commissioner, what can you tell us about the America East's expansion plans.

Amy Huchthausen: Expansion? Why do I have to talk to you about expansion? You hate our league, you hate my decisions, you're going to pick on me regardless of who we decide to add. You mocked me for the Ben Dickinson thing, and if I added Harvard you'd make fun of me, so I'm not saying anything.

Far from the Show: Is the AE interested in public or private schools?

Amy Huchthausen: Everything we do in the AE is private, it's none of your damned business.

Far from the Show: Does the size of the school matter?

Amy Huchthausen: Didn't your new wife tell you that size doesn't matter?

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha ha... You win, NUHF. Well played, sir...

That would be more than she has ever said to me... Too bad, because I had a GREAT relationship with literally every single member of the AE front office up until this year, and I certainly was critical when I felt it was called for in the past...

I don't know but this may play into the UNCW ADs comments that CAA changes may not become official until December. I'm now starting to wonder if Stony Brook/Albany/UNH/Maine to the CAA for all sports might actually have some legs. A 16 member league would have to be in the works with the aformentioned App State, C of C, and Davidson. That would create a 12 member football set-up and the following divisions for all other sports:

Maine
UNH
Northeastern
Albany
Stony Brook
Hofstra
Drexel
Delaware

Towson
George Mason
JMU
W&M
App State
UNCW
Davidson
C of c

Don't see that happening.......but wild speculation seems to be a spectator sport these days.

There is NO WAY in HELL that the CAA is taking UNH and Maine and Albany.

As I've said before, if NU/HU/DU want to be in a conference with UNH and Maine, we can join the AE in about two nanoseconds. There are outstanding "offers" that are on the table and have been on the table since 2005.

As a Maine fan, I'd only want Hofstra anyway. The other 2 do nothing for me.

I don't think you want to, but do all three of those schools have $1 million for the exit fee even if they wanted to? That may be a hard sell. Would NU join the Patriot League if offered? What if they knew the CAA was adding all southern schools?

We know they're adding southern schools. Southern schols left. Why would anyone think the league would look North (other than SBU in a mega-expansion)? That's what I don't get. People think that the whole "CAA is looking South" is terrible - we lost 3 southern schools, we're replacing them with southern schools. It was expected.

Would we join the PL? We apparently have asked more than once and were told "academics aren't good enough, school's too big, day of week ends in "Y"." In 2005, we approached the A-10, the PL and the CAA.

If offered, of course we'd take it, but the million bucks is certainly an inhibitor, and we voted for it. We're to "nouveaux academic" for the PL - folks at Holy Cross have told me that. It was easy for the PL to say "not good enough academically" when we were a USNWR Top 100 school. Now we're at 66 or wherever, and they can't say "not good enough" they have to say "not good enough, long enough."
