Re: Who's going where? More fallout expected!
Elon is Greensboro - non stop from Boston.
App State is a pain, give you that. Davidson - Charlotte - non stop from Boston. Charleston - non stop from Boston. We lost - GSU (Atlanta), VCU (Richmond), ODU (Norfolk). All non stops from Boston. App State isn't an easy trip. But, Stony Brook is equally as long a trip from Boston, all things considered. And, remember, we don't go to every school every year... We knew what we were getting into, and if we didn't like it, we could have left with a $250K exit fee.

UNH and Maine had a chance to merge with the CAA 10 years ago and the decision was made not to. The schools would need a 75% vote from the existing CAA membership (that's 7 of 9). There's no way Wilmington, W&M and JMU are going for it. Boom, that's 3 schools, simple math. That's how I know they're not coming. It's no offense to the friends I've made at UNH over the years. UNH was offered admission to the CAA in 2005 with NU, and chose not to join us. That was their chance.

Re: Who's going where? More fallout expected!
Delta is going to start flying non-stop to Charleston starting October 1.
And, if there isn't N/S service, I'm betting they'd pair a trip down there to play someone else, usually they do that with Wilmington. NU had to play GSU every year (b/c of the non stop flights to Atlanta it made sense), and we went to VA/NC 3 other trips. That wouldn't change in a 12 team CAA (4 trips south), and in a 14 team CAA (with SBU), we'd go south less.

The answer is - they had a vision to grow the sport. You turn it in to a 2-3 bid league, which they did. The 14 teams is admittedly a stopgap, a forward looking move by Tom Yeager in case ASU, UD and JMU move up because of the NCAA moratorium. You overexpand for a year or two and/when these schools move up, you have a base of 11. As opposed to a base of 9. I know forward thinking is a novel concept for the AE, but that's what the CAA is doing.

Some thoughts on Aeast expansion from MaineJeff's second favorite guy behind NU Hoop Fan, Mr. Steve Abbott!

Re: Who's going where? More fallout expected!
NU Hoop Fan - I have a few comments for you. As I recall NU left the AE conference after the 2004-2005 season for football and better basketball opportunities. I believe my following facts are accurate - you dropped football in 2009 to focus on other existing athletic programs. Since 2002-2003 your men's basketball team has a 169-142 record with two NIT appearances. I compare this to Vermont's record of 219-105 over the same period with five NCCA, two NIT and one CBI appearances. I agree with the Maine folks - you come of as if NU is some kind of basketball powerhouse because you play in the CAA. I wish both NU and BU were in the America East Conference but you both made other choices - so get on with your lot in life. I must say this - one of my best memories of Vermont basketball was the 2004-2005 championship game in Burlington -final UVM 80 - NU 57.

Re: Who's going where? More fallout expected!
We still haven't heard on who is right with Dane and FFTS about ccsu and Q being interested in the AE. I'm going to believe Dane on this one. I dont remember Dane being wrong about facts before. I know FFTS has been wrong a few times. I think we should believe q and ccsu are interested right now.
