The unfortunate thing about the NBA Draft is that unlike the first round, where players are drafted because of talent, the second round decision making is based almost entirely on financial reasons- that's why so many European players are taken in the second round because they can be stashed over in Europe.

If you are a US college player after pick 35- probably not getting drafted.
Some teams will punt on their first round picks as well- I think Dallas drafted Tyler Zeller last night and then traded him for 3 second rd picks because they didn't want to have to pay the #15th pick guaranteed money.

I had no illusions he would be drafted, but it's nice he is getting some attention (although I wouldn't call him a 6'6" point guard!). If he develops a reliable three-point shot, he could end up playing at a high level league. He's got good length and a high release point.
He has at least two workouts- with Celtics and LA Clippers. More than any other AE player.

I don't think he's good enough now to play in the NBA, but unlike a lot of AE prospects that have come close recently Partin has the right size for the position he plays, so he has that going for him.

I wonder how much we are going to miss him this year. On the one hand, he could fill it up which was nice for an offensively challenged team. On the other, he took a lot of bad shots.

You're right. His length was and is one of his biggest strengths. I just can't see him having more success than John Holland.

At best overseas...he's got about as much of a chance at an NBA roster spot as Suero...translation...ZERO!

Yeah, neither have much of a shot. Partin was a good 2''-3'' inches taller than most of the guards in the AE that would guard him- he also doesn't have the foot speed to match up with peers at that level.

At least with Suero he might have a chance to develop into prospect had he stayed another year and learned how to play organized basketball some more- but unfortunately we'll never know.

Here's wishing Suero good luck in his pursuit of his dream to be a pro (Getting paid to play basketball). Clearly not an NBA player at this time, but no one thought Gary Neal was either after he left Towson. Now, I'm not saying he will ever be an NBA player, but no one really knows what happens in the future. Personally, I don't see it, but who cares what I think? At any rate, he will make money overseas, and hopefully have a nice career. It's interesting to see how he was looked at by those who didn't watch him as closely as those in the AE. As with most evaluations, the more you watch someone, the more you tend to only see what they can't do, not what they do well......

Re: NBA Draft / loose Boston U content

I think Partin is actually an NBA-style player, but just not good enough for the NBA. If you know what I mean. He's tall for a guard, the right height for a guard in the NBA, and he seems to be capable of having the me-first or the one-on-one game/approach needed in the NBA. High volume, low efficiency (though I don't have the numbers on this - I'm sure someone here does). But like I said, not an accurate enough shot, not quick or athletic enough for the NBA. Maybe he'd make a good NBDL player but can probably find a better job in Europe because he was certainly able to fit into a system, secondary-role spot at BU when he was a junior, so I think he's capable of adjusting his game if there is a leader on the team with a good coach.

Also, when I read the title of this thread, I thought it would be in reference to Marquis Teague getting picked at the end of the first round. I know the BU fans and NU Hoop Fan know this, but the rest might not know his father played at BU. Second year in a row that a son of a former BU player was picked in the first round. And neither of them played at BU (haha!). And a side note, he is Jeff Teague's younger brother.

Found this about the other son of a BU player:

I went to the Boston University elite camp with my father, said Cleveland Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving, the 2012 NBA Rookie of the Year. B.U. offered me (a scholarship) right then, in my fifth-grade year.

Darryl Partin is a Mad Ant! He was drafted in last night's NBDL draft.

I'm doubtful he'll make it to the NBA, but I feel other people have a higher opinion of his game. He seems to be highlighted quite a bit in prospect lists:

Whatever the case, I'll be pulling for him; maybe he'll surprise us all!
