1. One year sitting out is a long time - it does dissuade players, especially those who are getting major minutes on winning teams 2. He turned down some classically good programs (word is Nebraska, Iowa, and Temple) because he wanted to be "the guy" in a local setting. So long as SBU keeps winning, keeps a cohesive clubhouse, and keeps being a stable program - there's not a ton of incentive to leave 3. As someone who went through the transfer process (albeit academically, which one can easily make a case is easier than athletic), even with recruitment and acceptances from better programs - leaving a school is tough. Freshman year builds a lot of personal relationships, and SBU wasn't a bad place to form them. Holding a Stanford acceptance in hand, I couldn't bring myself to leave for those reasons. Optimistic I know, but most of the AEC transfers last year came predictably and for good reason (terrible team, no playing time, no AQ, coaching change). We were the only ones who held everyone. I see that trend holding so long is Pikiell stays coach. Now THAT - Pikiell leaving - is more than realistic if we make the tourney. I'd be more afraid of that. Our best hope is to keep doing what we do nearly every season: renegotiate his contract and pay him more. If we want to be a "Gonzaga-like program" as he says, they need to put their money where their mouth is. Thankfully, indications are that we can afford it. |

Re: 2012-2013 Seawolf Pride
Edit: I read that entirely wrong, I thought Pikiell turned down Temple, Iowa, and Nebraska...lol, not Warney.
That makes much more sense on Warney. I doubt he leaves for the reasons Redwyn mentioned- he already had those opportunities coming out of HS. And of course if Pikiell does leave, then all bets would be off on staying. From what I've seen from Warney, at least right now he definitely wouldn't be getting the minutes and scoring as much in the Big Ten/at a school like Temple. He's by far the biggest kid that can actually play in the AE. He has an opportunity to play a big role and get a lot of opportunities as a mid-major big in AE.

Re: 2012-2013 Seawolf Pride
Great news Seawolves fans! By 4:00 PM Saturday is is most probable that our very own Stony Brook Seawolves will be all alone in first place in the conference as the only team left undefeated in conference play. Rejoice all true believers for your faith shall be rewarded! Amen!

Meanwhile, we've been through the gauntlet of @UNH (never easy for us), Albany, and @BU to start conference play.

Re: 2012-2013 Seawolf Pride
Anyone notice Warney gets 75% of his points off great passes by Brenton and feeds from the guards. Lol, people act like he creates all these points on his own. Great player, im glad he finishes, but it's mostly from these feeds from the outside
