Re: 2012-2013 Seawolf Pride

Apfeld doesnt have much handle but I wouldnt call him slow. I am pretty high on Apfeld as a player. OF course injuries and foul trouble do limit his minutes but when he is in its a good thing. He hit a high percentage of long jumpers and 3pters last year. I could see him put up some good scoring numbers. Over 10ppg with a high percentage. He really can shoot well. His post game isnt the best but he gets some points in the paint. He lacks a go to move but UVM works well with big men and their post game IMO. If he could develop a consistent post game I could see him scoring 14-15 ppg. Thats would be pretty impressive considering the tempo UVM plays at.

I also think O'day starts over Rugg. That could change with an injury to a big man but I dont think UVM plays Apfeld at center too much. I think O'day would be better fit to guard the center position.

Then you still have, in addition to Crenca, the Frosh O'Day to bring off the bench.....I think I'd go with a front-line of Apfeld, Voelkel and Rugg, with Carissimo and Rusin. 2nd five of Elbaum/Blue, along with Crenca, O'Day and I guess the other frosh Kilpatrick? Interesting choice for the coach, but he plays 8-10 this year anyway doesn't he?
Rugg starting is an interesting option and one I have not considered. He's capable but I like him a lot as a sneaky scorer off the bench. That being said, not sure now much Rugg is going to sneak up on people this season- he's no longer the walk-on that teams will force the ball to on offense- he established himself as a decent threat last year and I doubt he sneaks up on many teams this year.

I honestly feel O'Day is going to crack the starting lineup at some point- and even if he doesn't, he's going to play a ton just because of Apfeld/Crenca needing to get out of the game. That said, I'd be shocked if Apfeld wasn't starting.

Healthy pre-injury Crenca is great and certainly worthy of starting- post-injury, plodding, turnover Crenca.........not so much. Hopefully he's healthy this season.

No need to puff out our chests and beatour own drum this year. This Stony Brook team is built like the classic BU and Northeastern teams of the mid 80's.

Individual accomplishments matter little, recruiting isn't of much importance right now, NCAA Tournament or bust this go round.

Re: 2012-2013 Seawolf Pride

I'm just waiting patiently for November. Big Tuesday is around the corner. Watching my Seawolves before heading to work at 6am should be exciting but for now I'll enjoy our 10th ranked SBU football team. No need to rush it. Stony Brook fans are having a good time at the moment enjoying Football and Men's soccer. GO SEAWOLVES

Late update on their scrimmage, but Warney had 22 pts 13 rebs, and 3 blocks. Solid outing

Re: 2012-2013 Seawolf Pride

So it looks like Mcalister got hurt in the scrimmage, we're most likely going to run a 4 guard lineup (Tommy at the 4) anyone think we can finally get a fast break offense going?

Re: 2012-2013 Seawolf Pride

So we got Warney and Brenton at the 4 and 5. Who are the 3 others? Coley, Jackson, and Rouse with Puriefoy off the bench? Ive heard Mayo looks real good - no shot of him stepping into the 4 at 6'8"?

Re: 2012-2013 Seawolf Pride

Na they are both centers, I would love to see that lineup as well. But then you know Pikell would ruin it by his hockey style substitutions. Starters: AJ Coley Lenny Tommy Warney

Re: 2012-2013 Seawolf Pride

Pureifoy is having issues, Warney is playing up to his hype so far, Brenton is who we thought he would be, AJ and Coley have been solid contributors. McAlister is improving slowly but surely, and Mayo has been a great defensive sub. Lenny and Marcus have been the major disappointments, neither has played poorly but the other have earned their time on the court. I can see us going to the Uconn game as a 5-0 team. Things are looking good for SBU so far this year. Confidence is at an all time high!

I would love if that's the case. 5-0 heading to Uconn would be great. Buying my tickets with five other friends for that game tomorrow!

Re: 2012-2013 Seawolf Pride

Who is going to be the man at the four spot? That is really the major question mark for this team so far this season. We are asw good as any team in the conference at the 2, 3, and 5 spots. Our bench once and again is the best, by far, in the conference. Our team defense and team rebounding will once again, by far, be the best in the conference. What can we get out of the four?McAllister's body language tells me that he is the man. At least he thinks he is the man. Bracey looked good at times and makes the team much more athletic, but we lose about 4 inches when he is in the game. It would be nice to see Mayo transition to the four spot so he and Warney could play at the same time. Scott King was fine again today, and with his tools, his awesome shooting ability and his huge vertical he could get more and more minutes but there is something missing with him. Who steps up at the four?

Two road wins in very hostile environments so far. This team is good right now and will be scary good come conference play. This has the potential to be our best team ever.
