Re: 2012-2013 Seawolf Pride

After 3 games we have to like what we see...quick, athletic team playing SB defense. To me McAlister is the most improved over last year...playing with more poise and confidence. Bracey's defense is much better and he is more selective in his shots. Jackson and Coley will be the best backcourt in the league, and Breton and Warney will be rebounding machines...got to be happy at 3-0!

I agree, McAlister has a tough role though. Pikes is so quick on the trigger to sub him out it makes it tough on him to get in a rhythm. That has always been my main issue, players play with a bit of fear..."should I take this shot or try and go for the steal or should I hold back because if i don't make a play I'm going back to the bench." Wish he would learn to let them get in a groove and play through a mistake or 2. Eric seems to play for 30 seconds to a min. then gets subed out

Re: 2012-2013 Seawolf Pride

The fact remains McAlister should not be shooting 3's. period! absolutly not. What he did in the Marist game before the half was a joke. under a minute to go in the half with brenton, coley, jackson, and warney on the court and McAlister thinks he is taking the shot. seriously? he also has some defensive mistakes and misses some rebound oppurtunities. he should not be shooting unless he is taking layups. He needs to know his role. he is not a scorer. As for bracey no more 3s for him either. he needs to get to the basket. he needs to stop taking 3's. he is not known for his shooting skills. i have no problem with him being on the court on if he goes to the rim.

not to mention this morning bracey gets an offensive rebound foul line extened and instead of swinging the ball to jackson on top for a 3 or swing to coley foul line extend on the opposite side who could have went inside to warney or shot a 3. what does bracey do? passes it back into the strong side corner to McAlister. Those two need to wake up.

ultimetwely these two should have short leashes. they havent earned longer ones!

Re: 2012-2013 Seawolf Pride

Hello all, I've been off the boards for a few months but its good to be back. I've had the opportunity to really watch this team since August and here is what I've seen:

AJ: This is the most pleasant surprise for me. Jackson has always had talent, however he has become a team leader in Dougher's absence. He is looked up to by the younger guys in practice, has become much more vocal on the floor and in timeouts, and he has really taken a hold of the offense. He doesn't turn the ball over and really seems to be on the same page with Pikiell.

Coley: His maturity continues to grow. When Dave first arrived on campus he was a 100% street baller. He is continuing to become a great Division 1 player. He has cut way down on his turnovers, really worked on his jump shot, but will still drive with authority when the time calls for it. His decision making and feel for the offense is getting better and better every day.

Werney: This kid has tons of potential. His age shows occasionally through his lack of aggressiveness, however his fundamentals and work on the blocks is very impressive. Already becoming a menace in the paint on defense. Really excited to watch him play

Tommy: Tommy is Tommy. Without coming across as cliche, he has that X factor. Everyone plays better when he is on the floor.

Ron Bracey: Ron looks to be in much better shape, much quicker and a better fit for Pikiell's defense. He is still making mistakes but he is my starting 4 right now, almost by default since McAllister still is not playing up to his ability and Scott King still needs to get some more minutes under his belt to feel comfortable.

Looking at KenPom this a.m. and apparently SB beat Mount Ida 93-39 last year and 80-43 the year before that.

Re: 2012-2013 Seawolf Pride

I think some people may be overlooking the improvement of McAlister. He may still be a little raw in terms of his decision making, but you have to remember this is a guy that has only been playing basketball since junior year of high school. The basketball IQ is developing along with his aggression and that aggression is the key, he's athletic enough to get to the rim whether its scoring or rebounding. I think with the added playing time he will improve throughout the season and be the difference maker for the team and Pikiell knows that. I'm not saying he will be even a top 3 scorer, but his presence will be felt out on the court.

You are really way off here. Bracey is one of the top 2-3 shooters on this squad.

And btw, just for general info, when Bracey comes off the bench as the first sub in, he plays the 3 not the 4. Brenton moves to the 4.

Do you ever see warney and mayo playing on the court at the same time? Or would that cause to much havoc when we have to sub?

My doctor warned me about subs with mayo. Is this the same thing?

Anything's possible, but those are the only true 5 men on the roster. I don't think he'd want to hurt his depth by playing them at the same time too often. Mayo's value goes up against the opposition's bench., IMO.

Re: 2012-2013 Seawolf Pride

Pikell is so set in his ways it kills us. Subs every 30 seconds, pass pass pass jack up a shot style offense. The reason we are weak in the 2nd half is because teams figure out our plays and game plan. They shut down the post and when that is closed we're forced to shoot from the outside instead of driving and trying to create. I hate when Brenton plays like this. The team needs you to do more then pass and rebound. It's doubtful Pikell changes anything, looks like were back to our same old disappointing self.
