Re: 2012-2013 Seawolf Pride
I don't disagree with the statements about McAlisters play. But he needs to learn his role. No more 3's, just rebound, block/alter shots, and play aggressive tough defense.
Does anyone think tommy a pre season POY candidate needs to step up starting now though? he's been here 5 years and its time to start playing some offense. once again give up the 3s and drive to the basket where he can either go up with it or dump it off to mayo/warney/eric. i hate when we dance around the 3 point line passing the ball for 20 seconds then just jack up a shot. id like to see pikell ease up on the trigger substitution wise, force tommy to be an offensive presence, and attack the rim on the fast break. we run up the court but dont go at the rim, not saying to force anything, but at least make an attempt |

Re: 2012-2013 Seawolf Pride
Pikiell has always been criticized for his substitution win our lose. I think he has done a great job building this program no doubt about it but I don't want to got to the NIT again. I want to watch them play in the big dance. I would just love to see an 8 man rotation and see what happens. For those who want Brenton to score, he is what he is. He is not a guy who looks to do it. I know we would all love it but we have to deal with the reality that he is just not that type of player. Not a knock on him just reality. But hey let's just try and win 18-20 games a year and be happy.

Re: 2012-2013 Seawolf Pride
Like baller said, Tommy is so effective because he doesn't force his offense. He's an efficiency player and is pre-season MVP because of how he effects his teammates. He rarely makes a wrong decision and many plays he makes, even if not making an assist, result in a score. As for McAlister I can see where the frustrations are coming from, he still doesn't look comfortable out there all the time, but he's a unique America East player. Most teams don't have a guy with that combination of size and athleticism. He needs more game experience. He'll get better as the season goes by and don't be surprised if he's a key player for us come America East tournament time.

Re: 2012-2013 Seawolf Pride
One game is too small a sample to read into, but against Canisius it seems many fans got their wish. Four players played over 30 minutes. McAlister played 22, and only two bench players played double digits. Is this the start of a new trend or a one game statistical anomaly? The funny part to this is that SB is playing back to back regular season games yesterday and today for the first time in years. Coach had to think that he really had to go for it against Canisius.
The Puriefoy situation is puzzling. When we signed him the original thought was that we were losing a four year starter in Dougher and Carson was going to come in and compete to have his own four year run at the 1. When he gets on the floor is is so athletic. So what is going on with Puriefoy? Im hoping th elight bulb goes off sooner than later and he becomes part of a nice 4 guard rotation with Coley, Jackson, Rouse, and Carson. Brenton - has done nothing so far to derail his PoY campaign. We would all like to see him score more - he does everything else as good as it gets on the court. 18 points for Jameel Warney. This guy is only going to get better and better. His Rookie of Year trophy is in the bag. He by far has the biggest impact on his team of any freshman in the league. Let's steal one against UConn todqay! |

[/QUOTE] That could have been the sales pitch to get him to sign. That being said, not sure why some people have said he doesn't look D1/should red shirt. He looked fine against UConn IMO. In his limited minutes he hit a nice floater, protected the ball against Napier/Boatright (not easy to do) and showed some quickness on D. I think he'll be nice AE point guard, but he's not looking like an immediate impact frosh. Pretty clear at this point in his career/right now he's a reserve and playing behind junior Anthony Jackson who (besides today) has been shooting the ball real well. That's on him to show the coaching staff he should be playing over Jackson. Puriefoy looks like he could use some work on perimeter shooting. I'm more curious as to why SBU's other 2 guards have not played- Burnett and Ahmad Fields (Walker?)

Re: 2012-2013 Seawolf Pride
Both are red shirting. I think they are more 3's and the conventional wisdom is why play them behind Brenton and maybe Bracey when they might get 10 mins a game. Let them get acclimated to the program and put themselves in position to be 20 plus minute players for four years. I think thats the take on it.
I also agree about Puriefoy - Anthony Jackson is making it tough. Carson has done nothing wrong - Jackson is just playing well. I don't think I read his name once in the off season, so he has to be considered a nice surprise. |

Yeah- Jackson is playing really well thus far. I do not expect Puriefoy to take away his time if Jackson continues to play like he has- which is not a knock on Puriefoy.
