Is this interview/media prep for when Woodward finally gets his "promotion?"

PS - Is his office in the basement?

Really like the way he describes what they like about each player. I wish every school did something like this on their incoming players. Leichner seems to have the communication skills that an AD would want in a head coach.

Word is that a few high level donors made a phone call to Abbot and Woodward is no longer in the running. The job will go to someone outside the current Athletic Department.

Live by the big donor(s)........die by the big donor(s). I guess that the flip side of that coin is that you don't get new facilities and you have to cut programs.

In an off-season full of surprises, the biggest surprise to me has been Justin Edwards returning to Maine. Really- more so than BU leaving, Four leaving, Albany players leaving. I thought for sure he'd be out of there.

Leichner seems to be a real good one.

I never want to be accused of over-hyping SB players again. I know they are his guys and he has to say good things, but geez! Each one of these players is the complete and total package. They can all do it all. Can they really all defend multiple positions the entire length of the floor? Do they all have great jump shots and the ability to get to the rim and throw down thundersous dunks over seven foot tall defenders? Do they all really pass and handle the rock like Pistol Pete? Im not trying to be overly snarky here (although I am definitely tryi8ng to be a little snarky) but the person I feel real bad for is Edwards. With these players coming in he is going to never see the floor. The incoming guys are just too good.

I agree Salty, there is probably some slight overhyping going on here, certainly more than some Stony Brook players have received based on students watching them dominate pickup games first hand (Most SB students could probably start on any AE team other than Maine). Leichner should take a play from Fiore's playbook and turn down the hype machine considerably!

Yeah, he should just be a typical quiet stoic Mainer that whips out a novel or some knitting when the game starts...........

Thank God that we have someone like him to TRY and get people excited about the program and upcoming season. He would definitely be better served to latch on to a program that appreciates his enthusiasm and recruiting ability. He's swimming against a tide of people that just don't care and are more concerned about getting home so that they don't miss their 9:00pm bedtime.

Those pick up games just happened to feature SBs finest med school students. We are talking adults in their fifth or sixth year of school. Both of your points are well taken lol.

Jeff you are also correct - nice to see someone who takes a positivive view of things.
