OT - Problems for LIU basketball

Not a good way for Perri to have to begin his tenure...

Re: OT - Problems for LIU basketball

Suspended? Biggest mistake those players made was not going to Quinnipiac.

In all seriousness, yes I agree tough blow for new coach to deal with.

Re: OT - Problems for LIU basketball

Not sure they'll sit more than a few non-conf games. Hurts a little, but I doubt there will be any long-term punishment.

Certainly very talanted players, but there was quite a scuffle at the last CCSU-LIU game and many observers thought it began with a few cheap shots by LIU.

Re: OT - Problems for LIU basketball

The article does not say suspended from the team. It says suspended from school. I would think based on that, that this is a bit more serious then missing a few non-conference games.

That's how I took it as well...have to think when the college admin is involved, it most certainly is a bigger deal.

Re: OT - Problems for LIU basketball

Yeah, I took "suspended from school" and made the assumption that they wouldn't be on the basketball team if they weren't also in school- but if that's not the case that would certainly be some Binghamton Broadus era punishment and more lenient than Quinnipiac.

Re: OT - Problems for LIU basketball

As I posted somewhere in the comments sections (look for Washnatls), this is a non issue. They'll be back and re-instated for the spring semester and second half conference schedule which is the only part of the season that mattered for them. The only thing this does in the first half is took a potential NIT bubble team (they only play Robert Morris once this season) and turmed them into a potential CIT team depending on the amount of games they lose pre New Years,

LIU's provost seems to be pretty proactive about taking no BS from the athletic side of the house. They had a good basketball run in the mid 90's and then overnight the coach was gone and a very different type of player was being recruited. 16 years later it's the same provost handing down these suspensions.

Re: OT - Problems for LIU basketball

Of course the most knowledgeable NEC poster nails it- good call Ace.

2 Games!?!- that's hardly any punishment at all. Gotta love the NEC.

Thanks, but let's not paint the NEC with such broad strokes. Player discipline is a school-by-school, coach-by-coach approach. Quinnipiac has a reputation for being quite lenient on its players, but I would say overall the NEC schools and coaches have never been afarid to do the right think regarding player suspensions.

CCSU recently tossed Chris Baskerville from school in his senior year for his involvement in a 'scuffle'

RMU Coach Andy Toole suspended for 1 full year and then dismissed arguable the top player in the NEC, Karon Abrhams, after some alcohol violations.
http://www.post-gazette.com/stories/...braham-628357/

In this particular case, it seems like LIU is afraid to put player conduct expectations ahead of their on court performance. Too bad, because LIU could have made a positive statement by dishing out a more severe punishment. I expect this group of thugs will be "tutored" or “chaperoned” until the season ends to ensure the LIU administration doesn't get embarassed by their decision.
