Re: Randy Monroe out at UMBC!
Wow...truly stunned at the timing. Will be very interesting to see if there is any public reaction from the players. I'm sure they have been told to keep their twitter, facebook, etc stuff quiet and to be careful about what they say.
Man...cannot believe it happened 2 days before start of practice. Well, best of luck UMBC!

The only interesting part is the timing- why the change is 2 days before the start of the season.

Whether or not this provides answers is up for debate. |

Re: Randy Monroe out at UMBC!
Didn't need to hear this...it just makes it sound worse from every aspect. Sounds like Monroe simply gave up (and gave up a long time ago), and our AD is an idiot when it comes to MBB. If a head coach has to even THINK about whether or not he wants to coach, why is he coaching the team still!? Crazy. I guess he quit in best interest of the team, but is resigning at THIS point in the season really beneficial? Someone (Cough..Randy...Cough) wanted to keep their resume as impressive (and by impressive I mean unimpressive) as possible..... Geesh.
However, is any of this really news at this point?

Re: Randy Monroe out at UMBC!
Reading between the lines and this is indeed what transpired, it just sounds to me like UMBC and Monroe were pretty far apart on things and Monroe's seat was pretty hot and he probably felt like after 19 years it shouldn't be so hot- so rather then move forward and coach after some harder expectations have been set, maybe he thought he'd save face by just walking away.
Doesn't make any sense to me- I can't imagine his "value" as a D1 coach is any lower after the last few seasons at UMBC and quite honestly it felt like he had decent enough talent this season to start moving in the right direction- which make him walking away this season in particular, and right before the season begins- not in the off-season- so questionable. There's only 300+ D1 head coaching jobs in the country. You value the hell out of that job and coach until they say they don't want you anymore, or someone else wants you more and is willing to pay a premium for your services.

I have never met Monroe personally as you have, but I certainly respect anyone that is as passionate about coaching basketball as he clearly is/was, and wished he had more success recently, though of course not at UVM's expense But you've nailed it- UMBC (and the AE RPI) will be better off w/out him moving forward.

Re: Randy Monroe out at UMBC!
This conf is a joke. Bingo & UMBC are essentially D2 programs for the time being. With BU leaving this should cement the NCAA PIG for many years to come. Might as well just pencil in UVM & SBU for the AE tourney title every season from now on.

Re: Randy Monroe out at UMBC!
Brett Roseboro at one point in his career was committed to Marquette- by far the most sought after "big man" in this conference, however things have not gone his way in college. Hopefully things work out for him now.
Aaron Morgan and Malik Garner are talented frosh, legit quality recruits. Plummer is a great scorer in this conference- though he wouldn't score as much on other teams with even a couple halfway decent players on them- and Cook is a scrappy player that works his tail off- and can shoot too. Neller is a nice shooter that has been asked to do more than his ability allows. UMBC has some nice pieces this year, hopefully they get things turned around- because last year they DEFINITELY looked like a D2 team to me.
