Re: Vermont @ UConn 11-13
uvm overmatched. too early to win a game like this. UCONN is too athletic. We really stuggle against athletic teams especially the big east kind. Hard to get any kind of idea how the player will do off a game like this but it should be a good learning tool.

Re: Vermont @ UConn 11-13
We are really lacking a go to scorer. I like Apfeld but he does not have a soft touch under the hoop like Fjeld and Coppenrath. He also releases his shot low which makes it easier on the defender. Most of his points come from the free throw line. Blue had a nice start to the game but haven't seen much from the shooting guard position for the second game in a row. I know folks want me to back away from the ledge but I'm not convinced we will have a got to guy on the wing this season. If we had a knockdown shooter (like Four) we would be a heck of team right now. Who knows maybe that guy will show up at some point this season but I'm not holding my breath.

Re: Vermont @ UConn 11-13
Just got back from Storrs.
We can't score.

Re: Vermont @ UConn 11-13
Thoughts from the game, first time seeing UVM in-person this season:
Aggregate talent for both teams lower than what you'd typically see for UVM & UConn. Comparing this game to the 89-73 game from 2010-11 is a joke. *We actually did a nice job controlling the pace and not letting UConn get out in transition- however, we couldn't make a shot running our offense. *We beat them on the glass- 39-32. Great effort/job rebounding. *Refs were atrocious. Apfeld was mugged a bunch of times and couldn't get a whistle, Rugg was called for two phantom fouls without touching someone....couldn't get anything in the lane. Rusin was hacked a couple times. The bottom line with this team, offensively, is right now the team is full of players that have been complimentary scorers their entire college careers- except for maybe Rusin but the Marist team he was on was terrible. Team is in dire of need of someone- some people- to step up and make some shots. Apfeld- I love Luke, he's a warrior- and he's a great player- but offensively he isn't showing he has the necessary repertoire to be the go-to-player. Hopefully he proves me wrong, but right now his FG% isn't going to get it done. Rugg- Seems to be struggling with what to do out there. Had an amazing dunk in traffic tonight though. Other than that- pretty silent. Sandro- Sandro played really well, handled UConn pressure D quite well. Started to assert himself offensively and make stuff happen- take some jump shots. Wished he'd had done it earlier in the game. Rusin- Feel for the kid, he really struggled tonight. Couldn't get anything going. Pressing. Might be better to have Blue start now and let Rusin get it together, because he's in a slump. Voelkel- Voelkel did what he does and played well, took the ball to basket strong a couple of times- but his assist numbers are going to be down this season because nobody can score. Voelkel is a lot less effective without scorers around him. Blue- Trey played real well- one of our bright spots on the night, hit some shots, couple other shots rimmed out on him. He played with a lot of poise tonight, and I'd like to see him crack the starting lineup. O'Day/Kilpatrick- Both of these kids have talent- but they're freshmen and it was UConn. The void left by Four leaving looks huge right now- and will continue to do so if we can only muster 50pts a game. No idea what he was looking for in Towson, because he'd play 30+ minutes and average 16-20ppg on this team. Hope he finds whatever it is he is looking for. Last season we struggled on offense early on before things started to "click". Hopefully that's the case this season, but some of these guys are going to need to step up and be "the man" and help us out on offense. I wish Hector Harold was eligible this season- he's the type of scorer this team can use.

Re: Vermont @ UConn 11-13
Wasn't there- either injured and couldn't travel or they are going to red shirt him, in which case I don't think he can travel to away games if he red shirts.
Not sure what the deal is, but based on pre-season and game 1 he doesn't seem to be in the rotation regardless. Without Crenca and Davine/Taggart not really playing our bench definitely looked awfully thin tonight.

Re: Vermont @ UConn 11-13
Every time I try to take a guess on the direction of Vermont, they prove me wrong. I think we shouldn't be too concerned, and just let things work themselves out. Far too much talent on this team for one or two guys not to step up and get things done. It might take a few more games, but I think we'll be ok. I know one thing... we really need Big Ben out there!

Re: Vermont @ UConn 11-13
Seeing it live, that dunk was ridiculous.
Props to Clancy on that jam.

That said- offensively we struggled and could have played much better- as bad as we shot, we were never out of the game. Our defense though, and the Siena game, was very good relatively speaking. If we made a few more shots....completely different ball game.
