Re: UVM @ Northeastern 11/17
He is never going to be huge and he def weighs more than Blue. He holds his position pretty good for a skinny freshmen. Rugg is skinny but has put on some muscle and has held his ground down low pretty well this year. He can actually catch it in the post now and not get pushed off. O'day is already stronger than Rugg was as a freshmen. There is no reason this kid won't get stronger as his career progresses. I dont think he will ever bulk up too much to slow down his quickness.

Re: UVM @ Northeastern 11/17
[QUOTE=uvm4life20;6984427Bald was a huge loss to our perimeter d but I think our team defense will be better this year. Glass and four were both defensive liabilities. I think rugg and o'day are better defenisively than glass and I think rusin and blue are better defensively than four.[/QUOTE]
I'm not worried about our perimeter D relative to last year at all. As Alumni96 pointed out, our best defensive player on the perimeter or interior by a lot last year was Brian Voelkel, and he's back this season. Motivated/wanting to be there Brendan Bald was a huge loss, Brendan Bald 2011-12 when his shots weren't falling is no loss at all. Which is sad but true. Blue and Rusin will get the job done defensively. Rusin is strong/physical which Bald really was not and Blue has quick hands and good instincts- picked up a couple steals tonight.

Re: UVM @ Northeastern 11/17
Yeah, O'Day definitely knows how to defend the interior and defend the 4/5 positions, something Glass never really got comfortable with.

Bald shut down partin, mclemore, and aronhalt last year. He was not far off from being on the all defensive team. Voelkel was not the best defensive player by a lot. Lucky for us this year though we don't have to play partin, aronhalt, and mclemore. Someone pointed out bald being able to guard the best player 1-3 but we didnt have him guard the best offensive player every night last year. WE had Voelkel to guard the best player if he was a SF and we didnt really have bald guard the pg either. Bald is a huge loss to the perimeter defense. I think Bald lack of love for the game showed up on the offensive end more last year. His shot showed he didn't really work on it in the offseason or his game in general. His d though was still good last year and he made the best sg in the AE have bad games. |

Re: UVM @ Northeastern 11/17
Wow, just got back from a two week trip to California and could not really access the forum. Missed the first two weeks in OOC play and it looks like a lot has happened. Congrats to Albany on a good win, overall more good wins this year than last and still more to come.
Anyway, glad to get back and start bantering with fellow AE ites. Road wins are huge for the AE teams OOC schedules. Certainly helps the rating. As to this game, looks like a typical UVM victory, in which everyone contributed some good things. This is how they are going to win most of their games this season. Good D and contributions all around. As has been mentioned, Vermont needs to keep up the intensity coming back home. |

Re: UVM @ Northeastern 11/17
Based on a lot of Becker-isms and post-game interviews from other coaches, I've built a post-game interview script that strings together random quotes from post-game interviews I stuck in a database. Here's the outcome from yesterday's game:
