The Central Connecticut-Hartford Series
From Mike ANthony at the Hartford Courant:
Quote:
The I-84 Rivalry was a good time Saturday. Hartford and Central Connecticut put on a good show that should take place every year, and will. Hartford’s 80-77 victory at Chase Family Arena came a year after Central’s 92-58 victory at Detrick Gymnasium. Those were the first two games in a four-year contract that coaches John Gallagher and Howie Dickenman would like to see extended well into the future.
“I want to play every year,” Gallagher said. “I lost by 40 last year and I said let’s play a 10-year contract. It’s where I grew up. It’s [like] Big 5 basketball [in Philadelphia].”
...
The teams are scheduled to play each other next season in the Connecticut 6 Classic, so athletic directors Paul Schlickmann (CCSU) and Pat Meiser (Hartford) are considering pushing the series back a year, so the remaining two games of the contract would be in 2014-15 and 2015-16. They also could leave it as is and play each other twice next season.
The vote here is for that. Play two next year. This would be particularly beneficial to Hartford, which doesn’t have an in-state rivalry in the America East. That’s part of the reason why the NEC, with three in-state teams – Central, Quinnipiac, Sacred Heart – is so great.
...
“I know the contract reads [for the game to be played] the Saturday after Thanksgiving,” Dickenman said. “I almost wonder if it would be more beneficial when the students could be here and the students could be at Central, when the atmosphere would be electric. You’re going to have a lot more people and it will be an electric atmosphere, almost tournament-like atmosphere. That’s something those AD’s have to talk about.”

I have a suggestion - Bring CCSU into America East so we can make this an annual 2-game home/home series.
