This team is much better then the 1-6 record shows.
Gritty, hard nosed, Hurley players. The biggest problem is lack of depth and limited offensive weapons.

Agreed, you have played a challenging schedule thus far and have played some close games.

Re: Vermont at URI Info 12-01-12 2pm
This URI team is not very talented and is undermanned as it doesn't dress many. It is amazing that Hurley is keeping these guys in nearly every game. They played Ohio State tough and probably should have beaten Seton Hall and Loyola-MD (they gave up leads in the last minute of both games). URI really has trouble scoring from the field and is atrocious from the ft line. It has very little inside game. Rhody is staying in games by playing hard all game long and defending every possession.
The schedule has been very tough for the group it has. UVM will be the fourth opponent that was in the NCAA tournament last year. Rhody has also played four BCS teams away from home thus far. The schedule has been Norfolk State, @ Va Tech, vs Ohio State, vs Seton Hall, Loyola-MD, @ Auburn, and George Mason. URI's remaining OOC schedule after UVM has the following games @ Providence, Southern Methodist, Georgia State, @ St. Mary's, and Brown. The Rams then begin conference play in a stronger A-10 that now includes Butler and VCU. Hurley has several good transfers sitting out this year and has already signed two top 150 recruits for next season. While 2012-13 looks like a tough year, things look to greatly improve next fall. |

I agree...times were tough for a little while there in Kingston but it certainly seems MUCH brighter days on the horizon. This could be an interesting game...

The Hurley's are basketball royalty. At this point, the Hurley family dog could probably get some looks at D1 vacancies.
Low-mid level, of course

Re: Vermont at URI Info 12-01-12 2pm
I was kind of surprised how few times Rhode Island has faced Vermont. The two programs first game was not played until 1949 and the schools have faced each other only 47 times. The number of games in the series (47) is less than half the number for URI of the all time series games with the other four New England state universities. As a point of reference, Rhody has faced all the other New England state universities in at least 100 contests (Maine 100, UNH 113, UMass 140, UConn 144). Brown, UConn, UMass, Providence, UNH, and Maine are the top six most played opponents in URI basketball history.
Rhode Island vs Vermont All-time Series: Rhode Island leads 40-7 @ URI (H): 20-4, @ Vermont (A): 20-3, N: 0-0 12-17-49 90-50 W H 2-10-51 38-70 L H 12-8-51 105-73 W H 2-13-53 81-65 W A 2-13-54 95-84 W H 12-11-54 77-80 L A 2-16-56 88-78 W H 2-22-57 83-80 (OT) W A 1-3-57 66-73 L H 1-4-57 78-59 W H 1-2-59 84-77 W A 1-3-59 76-77 L A 1-8-60 89-66 W H 1-9-60 83-77 W H 1-6-61 90-69 W A 1-7-61 75-48 W A 1-5-62 82-67 W H 1-6-62 70-60 W H 1-4-63 83-68 W A 1-5-63 90-81 W A 2-8-64 106-85 W A 2-26-64 110-92 W H 1-23-65 93-60 W H 2-13-65 90-69 W A 1-7-66 97-63 W H 2-12-66 97-77 W A 1-18-67 92-56 W H 2-6-67 77-64 W A 1-16-68 92-65 W H 2-24-68 89-76 W A 1-13-69 81-70 W H 2-22-69 69-58 W A 1-12-70 78-66 W H 2-21-70 94-71 W A 2-5-71 93-84 W A 3-10-71 95-60 W A 1-27-72 75-55 W A 2-17-72 77-71 W H 12-14-72 78-63 W A 1-8-73 91-62 W H 12-11-73 72-61 W A 1-24-74 55-48 W H 1-31-75 68-77 L H 2-24-75 61-68 L A 1-31-76 76-68 W A 2-26-76 76-77 L H 12-30-03 94-56 W H Last edited by RF1; 11-30-2012 at 06:04 AM. |
