Re: Towson @ UVM 12/5
Honestly, it doesn't matter.
Joe Trapani Jordan Clarke Garvey Young John Kopriva Keegan Hyland Four McGlynn We've lost a number of talented players for whatever reason- some more bizarre/poorly handled than others- but over the past few years, the one constant that has remained the same is Vermont keeps winning. That's the bottom line and all anyone needs to know about that.

Re: Towson @ UVM 12/5
A couple of quick thoughts: I thought Kilpatrick was really good last night. I didn't see the box score, but I suspect he played more minutes than usual. He does have a very high ceiling. I love O'day, but people saying he is a great defender is not entirely accurate. Sure, he does a decent job on other bigs, and can block shots, but the most important thing - HE CANNOT STAY ON THE FLOOR! Two of his fouls were on illegal screens which should NEVER happen to a player in our system. We set a bunch of screens on every possession. You've got to be able to do that. He's had foul trouble in every game. He needs to work that out, and I think he will, but last night he was a Freshman.

Last night the Cats played a stinker. They let Towson dictate way too much of the way the game was played. They got outmuscled and outhustled. They didn't box out, and so gave Towson way too many second and third chances. The Cats were careless with the ball, appallingly and inconceivably so in the most crucial moments. And in those last minutes, UVM clanked off FT after FT. Towson made theirs. The Cats totally earned this loss. Oh well, time to move on and hope lessons have been learned and all that. |

Re: Towson @ UVM 12/5
Oh, they EARNED it all right. They had to go deep into the bad team playbook to get "Awakening Giant" Towson a win. Ton's of TO's? Check. Bad rebounding? Check. Soft matadore defense? Check. And then still it took a most uncharacteristic FT shooting night to get the L. Hopefully they will take out the frustration of the last two games and whip Quinnipiac's ass.

Re: Towson @ UVM 12/5
Now you UVM gals are starting to get it. Tank the conf RPI so when u win the AE AQ you get 2 NCAA games including a win against the MEAC to pad your stats. Excellent loss vs Towson--one for the ages, and one that will go a long long way towards that PIG seeding and NCAA win to follow ! Now we're talking!

Excellent win vs Fisher College. You really showed them what D1 college basketball is about. Flexed your muscles. There should be a banner hung up.

Re: Towson @ UVM 12/5
Just now able to post about this game...
How crazy that our most consistent, reliable, clutch player turns that ball over twice at the end of the game. Not only were they turnovers, but they led to easy fast break points. Towson really didn't even have to try. Completely uncharacteristic game on multiple levels. FTs I think was the real issue in this game. It wasn't just that we missed them, it was that they were missed by guys that are typically excellent shooters. Kiefer Douse can't get here soon enough, I think one reason Sandro had those turnovers was because he was tired. A real backup point guard that could take some pressure off of Sandro would help immensely. I know Elbaum can sometimes play good defense, but he can't shoot, the offense stagnates when he's in, he tends to make momentum swinging turnovers and has more turnovers than assists on the year. Having a second guy out there at the end of the game who can handle the basketball and not be invisible on offense would really help this team. |

Sandro is averaging 30mpg and while that's on the higher end for us w/ Voelkel- that's certainly not going to make anyone tired. If we had played back to back games and Sandro played 38min the day before then *maybe* that excuse would work. He got stripped at the top of the key. He wasn't being strong with the ball. It's an embarrassing play for a PG. It got him rattled and that was the direct cause of the next subsequent turnover. Elbaum doesn't sometimes play good defense, he plays good defense pretty much most, if not all, the time. He has almost as many steals as both Sandro and Voelkel and plays 1/3 as much. He also gets to the basket and draws fouls very well. But the sad thing about Josh which you're right is he cannot really shoot and can't make FTs either, which limits how much time he can be out there. He also needs to cut down his turnovers. But it's a stretch to indirectly say Elbaum's shortcomings caused Sandro to turn the ball over. Sandro was just...not good in that sequence.

Re: Towson @ UVM 12/5
Sandro often looks tired to me.
I saw the second steal from fairly close range and the Towson player made it happen. He made a very fast burst for the ball from a few feet away. It surprised me and I guess it surprised Sandro. |

Re: Towson @ UVM 12/5
I was pretty close too. My reaction was, well that's the risk you run when your offense starts with either a pass or a handoff to the wing. I'm sure the defender had seen that look 20 or 30 times during the game and just sat back and waited for the opportunity. It was a good defensive play.

Re: Towson @ UVM 12/5
It looked more to me like a lazy diagonal pass to the wing that could have been picked off by anyone- least of all a team playing with momentum.
No ball fakes, not a crisp pass, nobody really moving to even help Sandro, just kinda of waiting around. Bad play.

Re: Towson @ UVM 12/5
I think that's just his style. He looks kinda slow, but he's sneaky quick.
