Re: Towson @ UVM 12/5

I was there and my neighbor and I both looked at each other in the first half and said "Do you think Sandro is sick?" We both had that thought at the same time and this was in the first half. To Sandro's credit, he did make two very difficult driving lay-ups at the end of the game to keep us ahead for that short period. The two turnovers were killers but even on the next play we had a chance to tie and Luke took a ridiculous shot hoping to get bailed out by the refs. We were rattled at the end of that game and didn't execute on multiple levels. I will say this...Towson played hard and smart. UVM was hitting fgs at a high percentage in the second half and Towson never allowed us to stretch our lead. For those dissing the Towson team I think you're selling this team way too short. Their record is 4-4...they did lose to UMBC but as people have mentioned in other threads UMBC is much improved this season.

How bad was that play live? Because online it looked like a slow moving train wreck that began with Voelkel throwing a behind that back pass in traffic among the Towson trees. That shot ended up being equally ridiculous.

Really shocked that's what we did for our last real chance at a final "good" possession.

Sandro may have very well been sick too, who knows. That's a lot more plausible then just being tired.

Re: Towson @ UVM 12/5

UVMHC, I sit in Section 1 very close to the floor so I saw that play very clearly. I was shocked that was we what we ended up with. First all there was time on the shot clock, second of all Luke's back was to the basket and there were at least two players right behind him (I don't think he even eyed the basket), and finally all the UVM players were bunched up around him (terrible spacing). In short, it was painful to witness live. A real head scratcher especially coming out of a timeout.

That possession was a microcosm of the entire game. Bad spacing, bad decision making, and bad execution. The only thing missing was a missed FT.

Re: Towson @ UVM 12/5

The thing I hated most about it was that we gave the ball to Voelkel to try to create. Give the ball to Sandro he may of been shaken from the previous plays but I still give the ball to him and tell him you're our closer.

Re: Towson @ UVM 12/5

As I sit here and write my check to UVM for the bracketbuster game it dawns on me how frustrating this loss in regards to the bracketbuster game. You have to earn a quality opponent and this current losing streak is jeopardizing that possibility. If we can steal one on the road today against Q-Pac that will help us move closer to getting a good bracketbuster opponent. In addition a win today will really help this teams pysche. Especially since it's the second game in a row we play a team that has a former Vermont player.

Towson hanging with #15 Georgetown. This was certainly a winnable game for UVM, but maybe it wasn't as bad a loss as everyone thought.

Re: Towson @ UVM 12/5

Saw part of the second half. That would have been a real nice win for Towson, but you're not going to come out with many wins scoring 40 points. Good to hear the announcers say they beat a tough Vermont team in the "band box" in Burlington at least.

That's what it looked like to me.

I don't have a problem with trying to go to Luke initially- but it just wasn't there and they needed to kick it out. He was having a great game and he's also an excellent FT shooter- but Towson was much bigger than we were and they had to have known the ball was either going to Apfeld or Sandro.

That said, Luke definitely tried to force something that definitely wasn't there. He was completely turned around and didn't even see the hoop when he shot it= over at least two defenders.

Oh well.

Re: Towson @ UVM 12/5

FYI Benimon had 30pts and 18rebounds in a 61-70 loss to Temple tonight. Half of his teams points.

But of course Towson is a good "team" and more than just Benimon

I sure wish Benimon had wanted to go to UVM.
