Re: Vermont Basketall Remaining OOC
I'm saying that the team that wins is, ipso facto, the better team. By making excuses you are pretending that is not so. The game only gets played once and the only measure of which team is better in that game is the final score.
Fans make excuses in order to not face up to the fact that in that game their team was not the better one. |

1 thing about it thought is sometimes games get decided by the refs. Not always the team that wins plays better. Sometimes they play worse and need some help from refs. I actually think this year has been one of the better reffed years for UVM. I havent seen many outrageous calls. Pretty good reffing so far. |

Re: Vermont Basketall Remaining OOC
Others can think Towson is a better team than we are, that's fine- but I'm not. Towson is a quality opponent and that's not taking anything away from them.
That said, they might be better next year though when they add Four ![]() Additionally, team A losing to team B; therefore team B is the better team isn't as easily black/white as that. By that logic, you'd have to believe both Binghamton and UNH were a better team than Vermont last season and I'm not sure you'd find anyone (sane) that believed that.

Re: Vermont Basketall Remaining OOC
This "discussion" all started with several people observing that the fans of the losing team do not give credit to the winning team for beating them, saying in essence "OK, you won the game today but even though you won we were still the better team in this game."
I never made any assertions regarding best team overall during the season or any other time frame but the recently concluded game, and I was careful to make that explicit. At the end of last season's Bing victory over UVM the score showed that Bing was the better team during that game. That's what the score means. |

NDY - I am in agreement with you and I voiced a similar concept - It doesn't matter if it comes from UA, UVM, SBU or any other fans, as a group we usually take alot of the credit for winning away from any team that beats us. It as if we lost only because of our play and our opponent had nothing to do with our poor play.

You did in fact call the team that wins the better team. If you are talking about 1 game than you need to clarify that because when you say "I'm saying that the team that wins is, ipso facto, the better team." you are saying they are better overall. When calling a team a better team it refers to overall unless stated otherwise. I also don't think you give refs enough credit. They can have a major factor on games. They can make the team that plays better lose. I have seen it before. |

Fans make excuses in order to not face up to the fact that in that game their team was not the better one." You forgot to include the whole quote, which makes my intention quite clear. That's a shabby thing to do. |

Re: Vermont Basketall Remaining OOC
I will say that Towson has one of the better free throw defenses I have seen in a long time...... to clarify this statement i mean that I am NOT saying that missing 15 of 33 free throws for a team that was shooting 75-76% was UVMs fault, all the credit goes to Towson... Happy

Re: Vermont Basketall Remaining OOC
3 games remaining before conference play starts. Hopefully we play better than we have in our last 3 games against Niagara or else we'll be in for a long game.
Not really sure this year's OOC schedule has gotten us prepared for conference play- most years I feel it has. While I've loved the proximity, hopefully competition is tougher next season. Obviously very difficult to replicate last seasons but I don't know....lack of excitement in this one, and no exempt tourney.
