Re: Dartmouth vs UVM 12/12/12

This was a team playing with no confidence on offense. Period. Somebody has to step up and be willing to take and maybe miss a shot. I thought Sandro was going to be that guy, but apparently he's lost confidence after the Towson and Quinnipiac games. Trey Blue felt like the only guy in the second half who was willing to shoot the damn ball. This team playing as it is right now is no better than a 5th place AE team. They need to execute better on offense. It wasn't like Dartmouth was playing smothering defense. Everyone held on to the ball made a few weak attempts to look for the post and then dribbled/passed around the perimeter for 20 seconds until the shot clock forced someone's hand.

I can't even begin to explain in non four letter vocabulary the rebounding and/or lack of boxing out. Our bigs continue to get pushed around like 100 lb weaklings. Last time I checked its hard to rebound when you've been pushed under the backboard.

Re: Dartmouth vs UVM 12/12/12

Ya, the crowd at Patrick was pretty pathetic. They couldn't even get loud for the last 20 seconds of the game when Dartmouth had a shot at winning the game.

I've heard louder gyms at CYO games. Then again, not much to get excited about after last nights game. Like I said before though, I would like to see Blue start because he's clearly earned it. Rusin is playing turrible, our offense (or lack of) is turrible, and our rebounding is turrible......it's just turrible.

Does this team know how to throw a lob to Luke on a fast break? Honestly, throw it up by the rim and let him go get it.....bejesus

Re: Dartmouth vs UVM 12/12/12

Actually, watching the highlights made the game seem a whole lot more cohesive! I just looked at the box. 7 assists and 15 TOs. Dismal.

Here's one for the Phish-heads/Basketball fans:

Thank you, Trey.

He had 4 TOs but shot well, grabbed a pair of steals, and had 6 rebounds. He'd be my vote to start, but maybe Rusin doesn't fair well off the bench?

Looking at the box score, Rugg had a perfect shooting night 4-4FG (2-2 3s) and 5-5 FT. Apfeld and Blue were perfect from the line also. Rugg should shoot more.

Rusin appears to be drifting sideways when he releases the ball. He used to launch himself straight up, but now he seems to be rushing and not coming to a complete stop before going up. Sideways motion makes the shot a whole lot harder.

Rugg was 0-13 from 3 prior to this game, not sure last nights game means he should be shooting more per se- especially from long range, but it's very nice to see him hitting those shots and shooting better.

Yep- he also sometimes releases the ball when he's at the top of his jump instead of shooting the ball on the way up. It's causing him to shoot too hard and miss long.

Re: Dartmouth vs UVM 12/12/12

I think it's funny that we are complaining about how crappy the team is playing yet the team 6-3. This is one of our best out of conference seasons yet. I thought we were a middle of the pack team last year then we won like 14 out of 15 games. Lets be happy that we are working out the kinks and still putting up good win totals.

Great point. Have to give everyone credit for being 2-1 over the last 3 games where IMO we haven't played the greatest basketball.

6-3 is very respectable after 9 games- definitely valid. That being said, especially relative to last season this is a much, much weaker OOC schedule, so record wise we are where I'd hoped we'd be.

Re: Dartmouth vs UVM 12/12/12

Uvm shot 46% not horrible not great. 44% from 3pt land. Great percentage. 74% from the ft line. adequate enough. The offenses problem was turnovers. It has been and continues to be. I think another problem is not getting it to the hot hand enough with the offense. Rugg was perfect in the first half and the second half he shoots once in the last 2 minutes. I dont get it. IF he is shooting well today get him some more open touches.

Defense I thought the pressure was pretty good tonight. Forced some turnovers. The problem is not boxing out. I can understand its hard to find your man to box out when you are helping as much as UVM does. They still need to find somebody to box out. I remember 1 time when four UVM players were standing right under the rim and somebody crashes in from the ft line and gets the rebound over all of them. That prolly happened multiple times.

Yes, giving up the number of offensive rebounds we did was a lot of the reason the game was close. We played a lot of zone defense last night. It's a lot harder to box and rebound well out of a zone.

I thought that we could probably have run and pushed the tempo a lot more than we did last night. I think we are more athletic at most of the positions. I think the staff made a commitment to stick to running our stuff and grinding the game out.
