Re: MAAC expansion
Is it me or do others feel like the AEast is not doing enough to stay alive in this topsy-turvy world of realignment?

Re: MAAC expansion
Well, they're still better off than the NEC. They're one move (and it could come from the AEC) from being crushed. But, yeah, there's a point coming soon where they have to do something. I think our admins find every option so unpalatable though, they aren't being proactive. Sometimes you have to make the best of a bad situation. Maybe someone should tell them?

Re: MAAC expansion
Well here are the remaining options for AE expansion:
NEC (2013-14) 1. Bryant 2. Central Connecticut 3. Fairleigh Dickenson 4. LIU-Brooklyn 5. Mt. St. Mary's 6. Robert Morris 7. Sacred Heart 8. St. Francis Brooklyn 9. Saint Francis (PA) 10. Wagner plus NJIT --- take your pick. Despite the massive conference realignments going on right now, there is no one else that is going to "fall down" into the AE's lap. In fact, the odds have increased that other conferences (CAA, A-10) may come calling for some current AE members |

Re: MAAC expansion
NONE - Stay at 8 for now. AE Members need to stick together until all this realignment crap is over. Stick together and we will probably come out stronger than most of these conferences.
I don't even want SBU/Albany to leave anymore. The league should stick together, invest in athletics and get better

Re: MAAC expansion
AE may end up stronger if they stick together. Especially if the A-10 goes the way of the dodo.

Re: MAAC expansion
Just rumor, but the MAAC may be considering a later invite Wagner or Bryant as the 12 team.
Also, sources indicate NJIT has reached out to both the NEC and AE for an invite. Quote:

Re: MAAC expansion
I agree with AE staying at 8 members at the moment. I dont think SBU has any plan to move to a new conference in near future. Our new arena will still have 4k capacity, perfect for a mid-major team in LI. There is no point moving up to CAA or A10 and fall to the bottom half with losing seasons (Hofsra and Fordham). AE is where we can continue to improve, compete with good mbb programs like Albany and Vermont and schedule exciting ooc games. And better chance of making to the tourney every year from the auto bid.

Re: MAAC expansion
If CAA gets destroyed, then its a different case and I would welcome back old AE teams if they want to join. But I don't think CAA will get destroyed. They will just go south for all sports teams (with or without FB).

Let's say the CAA loses both George Mason and JMU. Do you really think NU, Hofstra or Drexel are paying an $1 million exit fee to go back to the AE? Much more likely the CAA will ask Albany and SBU to join as full memebrs - and yes I think they accept. The CAA has a better TV deal and a huge exit fee - it is much more likely they will attract members from the AE, not lose members to the AE. In this history of the NAC/AE all new members have come from the NEC, the old ECC, Big South, D-II, or D-I Independents. |
