Yep, solid win on the road. Contributions from everyone. That just may be the theme this season. If everyone contributes, Vermont should be in every game, i.e. Crenca.

Re: UVM @ UNH 1/2

It's impossible for me to understand why UNH plays such stupid basketball. Watching UVM play, as always, was a treat. No forced shots, no panic, great execution. People always moving around.

We just have four guys pass the ball around the perimeter and then worry with 5 seconds to go.

Re: UVM @ UNH 1/2

anyone know what is up with Kilpatrick? I know he was in street clothes last game and saw he was dressed this game but not playing, figured he was hurt...then comes in for garbage minutes? Kind of weird. Taggert must be red-shirting? isn't there a deadline when they have to red-shirt him?

Dunno, he might have a minor injury?

that is what I thought... but why risk it for a minute and change...also skews his stats. I did not think his play so far this year would lead to 1 min. at the end of the game, I thought he has had some solid minutes.

This team is horrific. Herrion needs to go.

Herrions infatuation with Chandler Rhoads has always puzzled me. Maybe Rhoads just has unusually poor games against UVM.....

Re: UVM @ UNH 1/2

It was nice to see the team play so well tonight despite a quiet night from Rugg and off nights from Apfeld and Blue.

Those are 3 of our top scorers and we still won by 13.

Re: UVM @ UNH 1/2

A solid effort by Vermont on both sides. UNH looked like absolute crap on both sides for most of the game.

I could watch Voelkel play all day every day. Although I think he thought too much on that last 3 lol.

Obviously Vermont it top tier in conference, but a UNH team that rolls that out every night would struggle to be 2-14 in conference play. I don't see the team improving in .... really anything.

Props to the Vermonters in the crowd, definitely more than UNH fans at the beginning, but you guys travel well. GL rest of the way.

Re: UVM @ UNH 1/2

I was at the game tonight. Great game to watch ..........for UVM fans. I was able to sit 3 rows up at half court and didnt have to worry about leaving early to beat traffic which was nice. Crowd around 50-50 UVM fans. I really like what I saw tonight. I dont like elbaum offensively at all. He does nothing good on offense. That 1 shot he made was an outta control junk shot that went in. It did not look pretty at all. I would like to see Blue play more point over Elbaum. The best thing of the game was Crenca looked great and played 15 min. Glad to see him out there. We can only hope for no setbacks. He looked pretty agile today. Losing Crenca was a huge loss in the OOC. If he's back its a different Cats team. Voelkel was great today. Everywhere on the court flying through. I love his intensity and fire on the court. He had a very nice behind the back pass. I think Voelkel is the best inbounds passer and behind the back passer in college. It was def a great team effort today. Nobody was really standing out besides Voelkel. Its not like they played bad they just had a bunch of contributions from a bunch of people. Blue was off today. Rusin kept his knucklehead mistakes to a minimum. He took some nice shots in the flow of the game but he was also stuffed like 3 times down low. He is a shooter thats it. He doesnt create but he is pretty good in transition. A lot of Cats had quiet but good games.

I thought it was interesting how the end of the bench was used. I guess Kilpatrick wasnt a 100% and coach didnt want to throw him in the thick of things with him prolly not practicing the past few days. He was prolly ok enough to play but lack of practicing was a reason for not getting meaningful minutes. Davine played over Taggart? I wonder if we can still redshirt Taggart? I wonder if Taggart is gone at the end of the season due to transferring for playing time? I dont see any reason Davine sees the court over Taggart. Is Taggart still eligible to redshirt? I haven't heard anybody with any news on this.

UNH's team..........ugh. That was ugly today. They played well enough to keep it kinda close. I saw like 5 of the ugliest shots today by UNH players and 3-4 of the ugliest passes. None of these were close. It was hilarious hearing the old UNH fans behind be like "They are putting Mortensen in. Atleast he can hit the rim. I was def feeling bad for the UNH fans. Konan didnt start and I dont think he was a 100%. He also looks skinnier this season which isnt a good thing for him. He's maybe sick? UNH should start looking to next year already. This season has not gone well. Time to develop the young talent.

He hasn't played in a single game this year, it's likely that he is red-shirting: Usually when freshmen red-shirt, there is no officially announcement. There is also, I believe, some wiggle room on the deadline for submitting it so that players can still travel, suit up, go through the lay-up lines, etc., during the season (experience some of their first year of college ball) without losing eligibility.

Matt Czaplinski, for example, was a freshman on BU's 2001-2002 NCAA tournament team, and although he red-shirted that season, he spent the whole year in uniform, traveling with the team, going through the lay-up lines, etc., but never played a minute and red-shirted.

I think it's safe to assume that he is red-shirting... and it makes all the sense in the world, there is no playing time for the kid this year, if they think they can get something out of them in the future and he can not help the team this year, save the year of eligibility.

Thanks for the clear up. I wonder why the words not out yet but I guess if injuries did happen they would need him.

Game story with lots of quotes... some of Herrion's quotes were, I thought, very revealing about the state of the program: http://www.onebidwonders.com/2013/01...to-cold-night/

Re: UVM @ UNH 1/2

I think it's very safe to assume Taggart is red shirting this season at this point. Would make the most sense, especially since it's been discussed (red shirting) since the decision was made for him to forego final year of prep school and enroll early.

That said, if he wasn't going to get minutes this season I have no idea (right now) how he will get them next year- unless we experience a few unexpected transfers. The depth rotation will be the same next year at minimum/ probably even deeper.

That being said, it seems like the best move is to get Taggart ready to contribute in 2014-15 the best way possible, which would be his Sophomore year.
