Enjoyed the article, Sam. This was the telling quote for me:

""I really thought up to Penn State a week and a half ago, despite our record we were a pretty good basketball team, said Herrion. Weve lost something, and what Im trying to explain to you as a coach is scary so you can read into that what you want to read into that."

...wow. I felt like Herrion lost the team last year but this is kind of a new low. He's publically saying that his team has given up. It's hard to blame them, too. The rotations are terrible, the offensive gameplan is terrible and the reward/punishment tactics are also terrible. Chandler Rhoads could miss 15 layups in a row and would stay on the floor, but if Chris Orozco commits a turnover he's out.

It's a pretty hard sell at this point that he's a good fit for this program any longer. I'm hopeful a change will be made.

Re: UVM @ UNH 1/2

I think UNH is one or two wins away from being solid.

That may sound silly but if they get their confidence they could be very competitive.

Myrick has to become more efficient right now he's a volume scorer.

Agreed...Harrion is at the bottom of the AE coaching barrel. It 'aint your academic standards holding you down, this man is not a winner.

I hope UNH pulls it together and wins the rest of their home games, especially BU, SBU and UA.

Re: UVM @ UNH 1/2

Rusin gets stuffed going to the rim because he's holding the ball stationary in front of him. He needs to cover it up or use those big muscles to move the ball around fast.

He played a good game and looks like he has turned the corner.

The coaching staff have been trying to "slow him down", according to the post-game interview last night. Hopefully something is finally starting to click.

Re: UVM @ UNH 1/2

Rusin seems to shoot/play better offensively when he can get some easy hoops- yesterday he had an easy hoop on back-cut and also made a couple layups in transition. I think that opened up some of his jump shots.

The less he has to put the ball on the floor, the better/more effective player he is.

Every time I've seen him drive he takes the ball right into the defender making it very easy for them to block. He needs to realize he can't do that and needs to shoot the ball differently- whether it's shielding his body and shooting a layup at a different angle or using a floater which players like Trimboli and Accaoui were really good at- or just stop driving all together.

I think the biggest problem with rusin drives is he gets his head down and has decided he is going to shoot way too early. You rarely see him make a pass when he is deep in the lane. He usually has a couple guys on him there has to be somebody open. He needs to keep his dribble and look for the pass more. More importantly he needs to drive less. He is a spot up shooter who can get buckets in transition.

I read this early this morning before heading to the office and that line really told me that there is a huge problem in Durham and I would assume this is the last year for Coach Herrion. A quote like that, listening to his post game interview, reading other comments in the Union Leader he seems like a guy that is ready to move on. Because I'm a hoop junkie I have been making a list of possible replacements for Coach Herrion. The only question would be will Marty fire him or will he decide to walk away. It is sad because I drank more kool-aid then most and took a lot of heat for it but I'm beginning to see the writing on the wall and change could be good.

Hard to say that considering his history at Drexel - the man has won more than any America East coach in the past 20 years... Now, not every coach is suited to win at every school and in every situation, but to simply say, categorically, that the coach who has won more AE tournament games than any other in the history of the league isn't a winner, just seems silly... I'm not making a statement one way or the other on Herrion at UNH, on whether he is or is not a good fit, etc., and I am fully acknowledging that every coach has a shelf life, both at a school, and in the game itself... I'm just pointing out that such a blanket statement given the historical facts seems silly.

I think the question could become does Coach Herrion want to stay. Unless this thing really sprials and they lose 12 conference games in a row I can't see Marty firing him before the end of the season. It would cost them some money and UNH has never been one to spend money. My guess would be Herrion steps down at the end of the year if this continues but that is just my guess. I would be interested from folks that have been on this board much longer than I could answer me this question... is this how things felt and went in Rowe's last year and/or Jeff Jackson's?

Re: UVM @ UNH 1/2

Herrion's in a tough spot- he's turned the success he had from Drexel into jobs at Eastern Carolina and New Hampshire where he hasn't had a winning season in 14 years.

It would seem that at this point in his career another D1 job wouldn't be an option- maybe, but not one with any upside- Herrion seems like he'd be best suited as a BCS assistant somewhere.

I don't know, but it's been pretty obvious for some time he's not going to get it to work at UNH.

Just in reading his quotes, it certainly seems like the team has quit on him. One player has already quit the team, and I've noticed a few instances of guys sulking during timeouts/changes.

He also sounds defeated. I don't know that he'll resign midseason, but there's no doubt it's time for a change and for the first time I feel like it's more than just Fast and myself trumpeting it from the UNH side.
