I don't expect a high scoring game tomorrow but I've read on this board the one area of weakness for Albany is defense. When UVM has been given room to work (Harvard, Farleigh Dickinson) they have scored some points this season. Although Albany does have the reputation of scouting our plays really well and we've been running the same flex for the past 7 years so maybe their defense will step up tomorrow.

Not a big fan of our zone defense. From what I've observed we get into zone and give up a three very quickly. With Iati shooting lights out this season I hope we stay man and rotate on the drivers

I don't expect much zone either. We give up easy 3s and we do not rebound effectively in the zone- give up a lot of offensive rebounds to opposition.

My thoughts exactly. Just go back and watch tape on the zone we played vs URI...absolutely dreadful.

The URI game is actually the only game I haven't either attended or watched online/TV this year, but I don't doubt it was awful.

I'm sure it was bad- because the Towson & Niagara games came to mind for me. Niagara we were terrible when he played zone- couldn't get a defensive rebound at all.

From what I've seen our zone defense is...weak/not effective.

It's strange our zone has become so ineffective the last couple seasons because Lonergan used it very effectively and Becker is a Lonergan disciple so I'm confused why they struggle. One of Lonergan's best strengths was mixing up defenses to change the flow of the game and to throw off the opposition. Becker seems to be much more comfortable playing man. I guess it's much easier playing in zone when you have Marqus on your team. because He could block/alter shots from all over the court and was a better help side defender than he was a man to man defender.

There's not really anything that's a quick walk. I can take a couple of you guys to the "coaches circle" where there is beer and wine and light snacks. That opens an hour before the game.

I think the way we play man is a little different than the way we did under Lonergan. Lonergan coached a pretty much straight up man and effectively mixed in some zones. I did like that. It seems to me that sometimes we play more of a match up zone. Guards will switch with guards, bigs switch with bigs. It's definitely a team defensive effort. Guys will cheat off and help where necessary, then rotate. It's pretty sophisticated if you ask me. It looks pretty similar to what the Celtics try to do. I haven't seen us play much straight up zone. I agree that when we have, it hasn't looked great, but I do like the look of our "man". It will give up some open looks for a team that can really move the ball, but it burns clock and most AE teams don't have 5 scorers on the floor at times.

great start for UVM. 9-2 at first media timeout. O'day took a shot to the nose,face crenca in early. Glad to see him still healthy. You never know when a setback can happen.
