But seriously - this is a great opportunity for Rugg and O'Day to step up. Rugg so far looks like he is up for it. From the little I have seen of O'Day (living 1900 miles away makes it tough to see these guys), he certainly has the ability. It is about this time in the season that Freshman start playing like sophomores. I would expect him to rise up. Ditto for Kilpatrick, as there should be a bit more PT for him as well. I feel for Apfeld and wish him a speedy recovery, but I am looking forward to the young pups and Rugg getting their crack at it. If they do, we will be more loaded for when Apfeld comes back and when it really matters - tournament time. Go Cats Go!

Agreed, I see a lot of potential for Kilpatrick. Seems to play good hard nosed basketball. He has some good hops too.

Not to be a negative Nancy, because I actually agree with this but...... We need more than to just have these guys "get better" we need someone to emerge as a special player... I thought between Blue, Rusin, and the 2 freshmen coming in, someone would shine... Don't get me wrong, I like our guys but we just don't have a Four McGlynn type player this year, and it's the difference between us being good and really good.... And no one is stepping into that role... Voelkel is amazing, but I believe he's just part of the puzzle and not a top shelf scorer.... At the end of the day that's what it's about.... Getting the ball through the hoop.... Every one of Vermonts championship teams had 2 legit scorers and at least 1 very special player on top of having an all around strong team.... Coppenrath and Sorrentine, Blakely and Fjeld, Four and Glass.... And anyone who still says that Four "wasn't really all that good" is just plain stupid or blind...

Glass and Four didnt score that much more than Apfeld and Sandro. Apfeld before his injury anyways. His last 4 games he wasn't the same. Last year it was a scoring by committee and it continues to be this year. Apfeld will be back by tourney time and we will have 2 legit scorers. I agree we will have some struggles but we have more people who can score this year than we did last year. I think we have enough pieces to pick up the slack.

I'd go Blakely, MoJo, and Fjeld in 09-10, considering MoJo was the second leading scorer that season.

I believe if Four returned we'd run the table this year. He was a dynamic player because of his shooting/scorer ability that opened up opportunities for teammates. Defenses had to key on him. Big game player that stepped up in the big games. He would have returned stronger, more experienced, and benefitted from starting. Our team is very good this year, but when I think about the type of player missing that would make it great is a player like Four McGlynn. When I think about our 2014 recruiting class, I *hope* we can land a SG that's as good as Four was/is.

He's gone, it's a moot point- but saying we miss Four is like saying water is wet and the sky is blue. Basically, no point in even talking about it- it's a given.

Rusin is still in the probable starters for the Binghamton game, I don't see this changing. Now with Rugg in the starting lineup we're definitely going to need at least one reliable scorer to come in off the bench, and that's Blue.

Our front court situation obviously took a huge hit, that's for sure. We lost our leading returning scorer from last year and our leading scorer this season. We really need O'Day and Kilpatrick to deliver.

Kilpatrick has been playing very conservative basketball. He doesn't want to be a screw-up and sit. He will get more time with Apfeld out. I hope he scores more, because that's what UVM needs.

In a perfect world Douse is an incredible Day 1 starter and moves into the PG slot allowing Sandro to move over to starting SG spot and Rusin plays the Trey Blue roll.

Not holding my hopes out yet though.

After first two games in his absence, definitely miss Apfeld's presence out there, especially on offense. Not that it's a surprise or anything but...can't wait until he gets healthy and comes back.

Did see some nice stuff from Kilpatrick last night. O'Day just did not get it going offensively.

Kilpatrick is getting more confident and playing less tentatively. I think he will go to the rim more often. UVM needs that.

O'Day is most effective when he gets the ball when moving toward the basket. When he is stationary and gets the ball in the post he just doesn't have the meat to move to the rim and ends up shooting some weaker shot.

It's not surprising to me at all O'Day didn't score much last night. Bingo played zone most of the night and anytime a ball got to the low block it was triple teamed. He passed out of the double and triple teams well. He didn't try to force things that weren't there. He defended well and rebounded, so I thought he did the unheralded things.

Agree 100% about "BK". He's fun to watch and should be really good.
