NCAA March Madness OT
Totally OT but thought this was of interest.
We have a bar in Stamford called Bobby Valentines. I think it's Bobby's last location left after he closed up all his others. If you are into fantasy baseball Bobby is a wealth of info. For March madness Bobby runs an awesome pool. It is usually a night or two prior to the tourney starting. He closes down most of the place for the auction. Most people there come in groups/teams and many have cell phones at their side. A team will randomly be called and the bidding starts. A number one seed might go for 60-80 grand. The object obviously that you get paid a percentage of the total for each win your team has. Many of these groups will end up with 2-5 teams. It is taken very seriously. I remember my first time there I don't even think my group won a bid on a team as we felt like these experts were just going to take our money. Maybe I will be buying Stonybrook this year. Anyways it is a really cool experience. Now back to our regular AE stuff. |
