OT: Pete Thamel
Longtime Binghamton fans may take a little pleasure in seeing that their favorite tormentor, Pete Thamel, late of the NY Times, is taking some heat for his role in the Manti Te'o story:

Re: OT: Pete Thamel
I'd never heard of this guy before, but this is by far the DUMBEST sports story I've seen recently. It was the lead story on CNN.com at one point yesterday...ummm, what?

Re: OT: Pete Thamel
This was such a fiasco and took on a life of its' own. How does someone have a girlfriend and be so in love with someone when they have never met or seen each other?
And UVMHC, you are obviously not a college football fan AT ALL as this guy was the runner-up for the Heisman and seems like you couldn't go 10 minutes without hearing his name or Notre Dame.

It sounds like there is an NFL player who was also taken in by this "person". |

Re: OT: Pete Thamel
If this guy is a Heisman trophy candidate for Notre Dame, you don't get virtual girlfriends online.
There's just a ton wrong here, don't even know where to begin.

Re: OT: Pete Thamel
My thoughts exactly...I am not a person to subscribe to conspiracy theories, but this does smell like some major sob story that was created to boost him up in the eyes of the Heisman voters and to really play up the type of guy he is/was. Like you said, there just seems to be a TON wrong here...

Re: OT: Pete Thamel
LOL...I have watched a few of those episodes but not very often. I know, people get suckered every day but like UVMHC said, we are not talking about your everyday Joe here...we are talking a Heisman finalist at Notre Dame with tons of women at his disposal (I know that sounds awful, but it's the truth). Just really blows me away...

It might be nice to have a woman interested in you that doesn't know you are going to make millions playing football. I'm sure all the girls at Notre Dame see the dollars signs hanging off him.

Re: OT: Pete Thamel
She supposedly was from Hawai'i...he was from Hawai'i and could probably run for Governor there and win. I would bet anything pretty much everyone in that small state knows who he is as it was huge news when he left there to go to Notre Dame and he was very well known during his high school days. He has legendary status on that island (have a cousin that lives over there and became a Notre Dame fan after he signed...he kept me posted...LOL).
