A friend of mine is a UNH fan, so I decided to look at the AE a little. That, and anybody who comes to SLU and doesn't have richard craniums for fans is cool with me.

Calling me a moron is fine. I often am a moron and when I deserve it I take it, that's alright. I ask no quarter. To refer to me as "he" as I am here actively involved in the thread is just down right rude and i'm sure you were taught at some point that this is bad etiquette.

Let me be clear also. The win Albany had over Washington was indeed very impressive. I will not and cannot dispute that for a second. I also believe that at the time it happened I wrote with joy and envy for the Albany success.

I used the term moron affectionately...now as for the he...that was intentional.

Re: UA's win @ Washington

I said this last year and know I'm in the minority, but I'd gladly forfeit the #1 seed, and subsequent guaranteed NIT bid, if it means being on a side of the conference tournament bracket with better match-ups for my school.

The NIT is cool and a very nice accomplishment for just about any mid-major, but you can't underestimate the fact that there is a let-down component of being in the NIT as well.

But to stay on track, the Washington by Albany is still great, and hopefully it will keep on giving.

Let's be realistic. Everybody does not play for a national title every year. The AE has no shot of ever winning a national title. The players and coaches know this. That's why making the NIT is a big deal and Vermont beating Syracuse was a herculean accomplishment.

Players, coaches and fans may not have any rational expectation of winning the national title but they can have about the same hope as a lottery ticket buyer that somehow it could happen. To have that feeling is worth a dollar to a lot of people.

That is not entirely true. Albany has won 1 regular season title, but has never been in the NIT.
There is another requirement that they failed to meet

We had this topic many times. I'll take 2nd with an NCAA appearance over 1st with an NIT appearance any time. In both cases you had a good team that could realistically make the NCAA tournament.
As far as Albany over Washington, it was a nice early season win that obviously won't hurt them in the goal of making the Ncaa tournament and if they make it there won't hurt the seeding.

....and the NIT/CBI/CIT is still better than sitting at home waiting for next year.

It is entirely true. As an AE team if you get an NIT appearance you have won your conference regular season. There are other things you can do like win the AE tourney if you won the regular season but no AE team will be in the NIT without winning the regular season. NIT appearance = winning the AE regular season.

You can re-word it however you want and as many times as you want, but it still doesn't make it true.

The 2005 NIT included Northeastern (then with the America East). Northeastern did not win the America East conference that year.

Any season that has the regular season champion also win the AE tournament includes the possibility of the second-place regular season finisher getting invited to the NIT.

Re: UA's win @ Washington

Of course every team and player wants to go to the NCAAs but going to the NIT or any other post season tourney (CIT/CBI etc) should still be consider an accomplishment for a true mid/low major team.

I wasn't aware that an AE team got an atlarge bid to the NIT. While not as impressive as winning the league that is a pretty nice accomplishment itself. I'm not a cbi or cit fan. It's better than going home I just wouldnt call it an accomplishment unless you win it.
