Gallagher has this team believing in themselves and they are certainly confident, very different than previous Hartford squads against UVM.

Hartford is very, very quick and they played tough and physical, and the 1-3-1 with Nkwamma at the top that they flashed was disruptive and hurried us up and got us out of our offense. Shades of when we had Blakely in the 1-3-1.

And if Hartford would have shot even 25% from 3, different ball game.
MAybe it is just me but when i see Nkwamma i see an average player. Blakely was not average. i dont see shades of blakely anywhere when i see nkwamma

Obviously I'm not comparing Nkwamma to Blakely lol.

Re: UVM @ Hartford 1/30/13

I believe we have won 3 outta of our last 4 against SB. That's with the current players. What happen before the past two seasons doesn't affect how a team looks at a team. You want to mention injuries. That semi finals game you are refering too we did have two of our best players no where near 100% with ankle injuries.

Hartford might be a stretch but any team that shoots the way Hartford does is scary. We absolutely fear BU more than SB. The past two games against SB we dominated. Sure SB came back last game but they did not take the lead or anything. We have won 3 in a row vs SB. It's fine you guys beat Hartford and BU. You match up against them much better than you match up against us.

UVM always struggles against really athletic teams. It's the really quick guards and really athletic physical big men we struggle against. Coley and Warney are the only two players that fit this bill. It's not that the other players don't have quickness or athleticism. They just dont have enough or the kind that we struggle against.

It's just you: He's leading the league in scoring in conference games, shooting 53 percent from the floor in AE play all while facing double-teams every night because the league has figured out as he goes so go the Hawks.

He reminds me of a poor-man's Rashad Bell from BU, which is still a heck of a player in the this league.

That is an apt comparison

Yeah, I guess I glossed over the part where Nkwamma was called an "average" player in this conference.

That's just crazy talk.

Once again we are 4-5 against you. with every team winning at home except SBU's 22 point thrashing at hartford(a game when you had injuries but we were missing our best player) and vermont dominating last year in the finals. This domination that you talk about isnt there. To say that this year's game was total domination would be a little much.

Position by position SBU is better than hartford and BU. McAlister being the one maybe.

Well i saw him against SBU and he wasnt that impressive. He wasnt a guy where i said "wow he is good"

Look at his stats against the bottom half of the league Binghamton, new hampshire, umbc, and maine he scores 23. against top half vermont, sbu, albany and bu he is at 12.

It's just you. The top half have the rosters where they can double-him constantly, run a ton of guys at him, and make the rest of the Hawks roster beat them - and Hartford can't do it without him.

I was at the BU and Vermont games, both teams SOLD OUT to stop him: Literally a double team even when we was on the weak side. Against BU the Hawks made their open shots and they won, against Vermont they didn't. If you're demanding double-teams against the top teams in the league, your a darn good player... One on one, neither team had anyone who could stop him...

His big issue is foul trouble, and against SBU and Albany he was in foul trouble and struggled to stay on the floor... when he's on the court he's one of the best in the league... Also worth noting last night's Vermont game he was the high-scorer - it was an incredibly ugly, slow paced game...

I'm curious what you think UVM's favorable matchups against Stony Brook are? Stony Brook gave up 81(!) points to UVM. I think that's important take away from the last meeting.

Re: UVM @ Hartford 1/30/13

I don't really know where else to put this but some nuggets Coach Becker on Cats Den w/ Chris Villani

*If anyone had tuned in before said Apfeld was going to come back either by Hartford or if not by UNH. I guess I need to tune in more b/c I think most people were surprised Luke was back.

*Discussed scheduling for next year. Said UVM was maybe trying to host a tournament to get some teams to come to Patrick. Thought that was interesting. I know the women's team does this annually. Not sure if it will get legs.

*Said they are trying to schedule 3 BCS teams next year- said one will probably be from New England and be a UConn/Providence/Boston College

*Said they have tried to schedule teams like Butler and Davidson and have reached out to them. Again, not sure if either get legs.

Re: UVM @ Hartford 1/30/13

In response to Oceandogs question: I think UVM has a little advantage inside on offense and is a little better on defense against the drive. Other than that I see more similarities than differences. Both have streaky outside shooting. Both have to stay concentrated or they turn it over. Coley and Rusin can both either make you or kill you. AJ and Carissimo is a wash, maybe a little in Carissimo's favor. Both teams have long benches and blossoming freshmen.

As odd as it sounds, I think Elbaum may well be the difference for UVM on the 15th. He's playing at home, he's learned not to show off, he takes the ball away and gets into the point guard's head, and he is hitting his layups.
