Re: UMass Lowell to America East
They're currently d 2 in those sports so the short answer would be no. Although they do have a beautiful baseball facility that doubles as a class a stadium that was already mentioned

Re: UMass Lowell to America East
I know they are d2, but they could still be good. I guess what I was asking was if they progress far in the d2 championships. You would think if they do, even if it is only d2, then they will continue to be good in that sport in d1. for example Binghamton was good at wrestling back in the day before d1 and are still very good at wresting in d1 times.

Re: UMass Lowell to America East
UMass Lowell has a decent program at the Division II level. Their field hockey team makes the NCAA tournament every year, and most years makes the final game (granted, there are only like 25 teams, but still). Men's soccer made the NCAAs this year after a few years absence, while women's soccer made it last year. Baseball was real good about 10 years ago, but has cooled off a little bit, but still a solid club. Softball is also good, as well as track and cross country.

Re: UMass Lowell to America East
I know...um, there really isn't much "etc" after those 3 teams you listed along with Maine & UNH...I think St. Francis (NY) & the Citadel would complete the list. It's very lonely here...

Re: UMass Lowell to America East
Just curious what other Lowell fans think will happen in terms of basketball facilities.
I think we're in the situation where Costello (seating capacity= 2,200) is too small and Tsongas (seating capacity= 6,500+) is too big. We don't have something that's "just right." A 3,500-4,000 seat arena would be awesome. I'm guessing we'll see something like what BU has been doing where most games will be played in the Costello and games against UNH, UVM, Maine will be played at Tsongas. I was at the game last night against St. Anselm and the building was at least 75% full. I'm sure that we'll have no problems filling Costello on a regular basis and I'm really excited for the move. I realize that Lowell is going to get stomped almost every night and I'm sure most other fans are expecting that as well, but I wouldn't count this team out of anything next year. They almost upset Providence College last year and they've been a competitive D-2 team, making the NCAAs most years. Oh, and you guys are gonna love Coach Herenda's foot stomping antics. Guy is a nut. |
