Re: UMass Lowell to America East
This is what i was hoping for as well. Felt like the "perfect storm" was here with all this realignment, BU leaving, etc for the conference to finally do it. If they had, you most likely could have brought in Bryant & CSU, had Monmouth as an affiliate and been ok. Obviously would want at least one and probably three more members at that point, but that could have been done as I'm guessing Rhode Island would have been interested in that league for football.
I know, that football league wouldn't have the power, tradition and appeal of the CAA, but it would help to contain costs and would still have 4 teams that were in the NCAA Playoffs in the last couple of years. Out of conference games could always be scheduled with Delaware, JMU, Towson, etc if wanted.

Re: UMass Lowell to America East
+1...Newark is a shithole and armpit. "Newark" and "destination city" would only be in the same sentence for people looking to score drugs or witness homicides. God, I hate that place with a passion!

Newark, Trenton, and Camden. Some of my favorite places to holiday.

Re: UMass Lowell to America East
To those saying that this and the NJIT moves are signals for SBU and UA departing I'm going to have to disagree. Those schools are the big draws for this conference going forward and the moves were likely made with their approval. Both the schools being added would be mid sized publics with room for growth both academically and in their athletic departments. I also have a feeling SBU and UA are being pressured by the SUNY commissioner to stay in the conference with binghamton. After all most of the rumors suggest that SBU has already received an all sports CAA invite. On top of that is anyone sure the CAA will be anything more then a lateral move for those two schools after the A10 and PL pick off the best programs?

Plus, they have a great mascot name in the River Hawks. Is UML to the AE official? Nothing on the AE website, but as we know that's hardly an indicator of anything. |

From UA's standpoint...the committment to football and title ix were the only issues from us becoming a full-funded sports program. Those issues are gone now. And Zympher is a big sports fan...she's not stopping teams from moving on, nor does she have the political power to do so. |

Re: UMass Lowell to America East
Back to the topic, UML has really worked to improve the academic offerings and student body. The geographic fit is great and they have some history with some AE schools from hockey. They have some great athletic facilities and a big city to recruit from. I remember when the SUNY schools were considered "safety" schools and that has changed, so I can't see any reason to get snooty.

Re: UMass Lowell to America East
You must be new to the whole CAA process. There are about 8 schools on the CAA's speed dial. 3 of them (and maybe Maine if they come back North) are on the list. So let's say all 5 football affiliates (Richmond included), Coastal, Elon, and Liberty.
