Re: Canisius @ UVM -- Bracketbusters 2/23
I have one word for the game.......O'Daymination. O'day 22 points 2 blks on 9-13 shooting. Blue, Apfeld, Rugg, and Sandro all scored in double figures with VERY efficient shooting. UVM won 87-79. UVM shot 58fg% 50 3pt% as a team. Kyle Washington had 29 points 4stls for Canisius. He def looked better than Baron. Great game by the Catamounts.

Re: Canisius @ UVM -- Bracketbusters 2/23
Great win today, the cats played some exciting basketball. Canisius showed alot of heart to claw back the way they did, good job by UVM for not letting it slip too bad. Couple of things.
O'Day played like a senior today, wasn't afraid to try and score the ball. More please. Blue really carried us in the first half and hit some deep 3's. Hopefully this will build some confidence. Great to see us put the ball in the hoop and play with a little swag, we're starting to play better. LETS GET HEALTHY!

Re: Canisius @ UVM -- Bracketbusters 2/23
Solid game for the Cats today. Blue got us off on the right foot and O'Day was terrific. UVM had a few sloppy turnovers, but it didn't feel like a huge number. And a couple of great steals/lob passes/baskets, one right after the other. Good help defense, although that did expose the weakness of leaving opponents open to shoot the 3, which they did.
There was a lot of complaining from the crowd about fouls they felt should have been called on Canisius, especially in the first half. It got a bit physical in there. I was thinking of what someone had written on this board about how it's good experience for AE teams to play games that aren't called as tightly (or ticky-tacky) as they are used to in this conference. So maybe not such a bad thing for the Cats to figure out and battle through. Canisius's no. 3, Washington, had a very nice stroke. Scored 27, I think. Hopefully the Cats can build on this and the Maine game to get some good momentum going into the championship tournament. |

Re: Canisius @ UVM -- Bracketbusters 2/23
Didn't watch the game...saw that Canisius committed 25 fouls to Vermont's 13, giving Vermont a 31-14 edge in free throw attempts. That's a pretty big difference...

However, fouling Apfeld with 3 seconds left down 6 was a little unnecessary, but helped pad some stats! Also, in terms of anyone who may look at that foul discrepancy and think that UVM got the hometown foul advantage, the refs in all Bracketbuster games are from the opposite teams conference, so the game today was refereed by MAAC refs. Its depressing that there is a difference in the way the game is played depending on refs, but we saw this earlier in the year when UVM played Charleston, the SOCON refs let the game be played way differently (better in my opinion with less ticky tack stuff) |

Re: Canisius @ UVM -- Bracketbusters 2/23
Just to add on the referee thing, the 3 MAAC refs that were at the game also do a lot of AE games. Bob Adams actually refereed the previous game at Patrick vs Maine 4 days ago. It'd be funny if they let the game be played more physical because it was considered a "MAAC" game for them instead of an AE game where they blow the whistle every other play. Obviously that isnt what happened but it got me thinking
