Re: Canisius @ UVM -- Bracketbusters 2/23
I liked seeing UVM play in transition today, by far the most "fast break" points they have had in a while, possibly the whole season. Trey thrives in that type of game and they have bigs that can run the floor so I am not sure why they do not do it more? I was impressed with Canisius, they were big and could stroke it so a quality win for the Cats! Did anyone else notice that Matt St Amour was in attendance and after the game walked on to the floor and headed into the locker room?

Re: Canisius @ UVM -- Bracketbusters 2/23
No, but I did notice that Matt seems like he could really use a year to bulk up, not much bulk for a 6' 2" shooting guard. However, if you can shoot/score that is a good thing and as I have said before I trust this staff with their player evaluations.

I'm starting to follow this league more and more.
Hell, after the dominoes fall, we could be league-mates. Stranger things have happened...and I'd rather go here than the Missouri Valley (the story is long and cumbersome).

Re: Canisius @ UVM -- Bracketbusters 2/23
Sounds like a good idea...if he goes to UVM, I'd be for giving him a scholarship in 2014 granted that he walks on during his redshirt year.
We have 6 scholarships available for 2014, and will still have Pierson, Harold, BK, Douse, and O'Day on the team. The likelyhood that we are able to get 6 "home run" type recruits like an O'Day is pretty unlikely. For a school like Vermont I'd say we get 2-3 of those type of guys, and maybe a couple transfers (but those transfers won't be eligible). Not saying that St. Amour isn't good but wouldn't necessarily call him a "home run guy"... using the 5th or 6th scholarship on him in 2014 is a really good use for it and smart in my opinion. Vermonters love Vermont kids and having someone like a St. Amour would be great and will get more fans and local kids into Patrick. He's more of a Santo type recruit, which is not bad to have as a 5th or 6th guy in a 6 player recruiting class. Last edited by Blakely4Prez; 02-23-2013 at 07:57 PM. |

Re: Canisius @ UVM -- Bracketbusters 2/23
Nice game from Vermont today. Last year against Niagara we scored 92 points in the Bracket Buster, today 87 against Canisius.
If this is one of those "players games" where they go out and get up and down the court and play loose and look to score? If so, wouldn't mind seeing the "players games" more often ![]() The results tend to be pretty good. Lot's of guys with great games today but kudos to O'Day, Blue, Rugg, Apfeld, and Sandro for all scoring in double figures. Like the way we shot today as well.

BTW I think AE was 12-8 vs. the MAAC this year, including half of Bing's wins, so I get your attitude.

Re: Canisius @ UVM -- Bracketbusters 2/23
Difference between Taggart and St. Amour is Taggart is 6'5'' and is a F/G and can play the 3 in AE but has outside shooting skills of a guard, plus can rebound and has real nice passing ability. Limited athleticism but is a heady player. St. Amour...is a very limited shooter at this point.
I also think in general going forward, we need to get a little more athletic than we currently are- certainly not stay status quo or become less athletic.

However, We surely do need to hit a homerun on at least 3-4 kids in that class. Can't emphasize enough how important 2014 recruiting is to continued success of UVM. In addition to that, I think we need to maximize each one of those scholarships. I used to feel giving one to St. Amour in 2014 would be alright, but the more I've seen of his game the less I think it makes sense. I think we need to use all our bullets, and certainly not at the expense of giving one to someone that's D1-ready.

Re: Canisius @ UVM -- Bracketbusters 2/23
I agree with this completely. We should be good next year, but after that senior class graduates, it will truly be Becker's team. Having lost all of the Freshman from last year, restocking with those 6 scholarships is of utmost importance. If you can get a kid to walk on, that's great. If he earns a scholarship, that's great also. Be why allocate one to him now or even discuss allocating one to him now? I am sure the coaching staff is not.
