Also, Rice played in a tournament in NY against teams from all over the region. they played a NY state champion last night lost by 10 or so http://www.stargazette.com/story/spo...inal/78025588/

Shungu had 24 in it, Nelson had 22.

http://www.mytwintiers.com/sports/lo...ay-inn-classic ... Shungu put on a show through out the tournament from what I followed on twitter.. they lost by 10 to a top NY highschool with a Maryland recruit. Today I believe they play for third place. As for this weekend some big games like Saturday burlington vs MAU.

Looks like it was a classic game between Burlington VS mau with bhs winning it 84-81 in 2 OT's. Got to hand it to them, winning at mount Anthony isn't easy. Should be a another classic when bhs visits rice Thursday

You guys probably already know this, but Lonergan really wanted Conley but couldn't get him admitted. At least that's what he told me.

Swanton native Matt St. Amour is having a phenomenal junior year at Middlebury. He had 24 points 12 rebounds and 7 assists against Southern Vermont in a convincing win yesterday. Southern Vermont was 8-2 before the Middlebury game. St. Amour is averaging 18 pts. 5 rebounds and 2 assists on the year. Middlebury is 6-6.

good move. I would love him as a third string pg but we don't have enough schollies to have him be the fourth string pg for the first two years.

Re: Vermont HS BBall prospect discussion

Rice win 58-55 or something - i could only see the first half.

Shungu had 21 in first half def is the man for Rice and shows it improved for sure what I see rest of rice is solid but unspectacular felt in frist half Burlington was better side with more balance but they do lack the star that is Shungu type like Rice has.
Since I only watched the first half anyone watch whole game care to add thought?

I was at the game and from what I can tell shungu played solid big first half . Garrison gave him some trouble real athletic kid but shungu had his jumper knockin in definitely kept them in the game. Burlington is solid they were the better team in the first half and forced rice to make some careless turnovers but rice made some plays down the stretch and secured the win in the fourth quarter. Shungu is legit big game on a big night surprised coach didn't double him but the way the game was going it really could've gone either way. 58-55 final score shungu with 35pts

Re: Vermont HS BBall prospect discussion

I liked Garrison athleticism to and he did have some good stops on Shungu in the half I was able to watch. But at this point as intrigue as he is he is just a good HS athlete at this point - only soph so time to craft game but you see it a lot with good athletes they good enough to thrive but through 4 years do not improve.
At least can say Shungu was better even in the 15 mins i saw of the feed online than I saw him last year - both teams still expect them to be at Patrick for semis and the round 2 of the matchup in a few week should be a good one too.

Re: Vermont HS BBall prospect discussion

Evenwith d3 talent and kids with no chance at playing in college You will always have the kids who practice all year round to get better and kids who play basketball when the season comes around. I've talked to high school coaches who already have 90% of next years roster figured out before the current season is over.

They will reward an athlete who doesn't look at a basketball all summer over a kid who isn't considered varsity talent and picks one up every other day. The younger you are the more constant practicing really makes a difference on your game.

I was at Notre Dame/BC and BC was so bad/ non-competitive I actually started watching Rice/BHS on my phone.

I can only recognize Shungu and Hale, don't really know all the other players. Have heard Garrison and Nelson are good

Garrison is athletic, bright future in sports and a pretty good basketball player drives to the basket well.. Elliott is a sophomore but there's also a freshman on rice that has a lot of potential ..like I said that game could've went both ways sometimes you live with the best player scoring points and letting the team make shots..rice made just enough shots cause the drop off was shungu 35pts and their next player had 7pts mbayu kid...sounds like a switch in game plan next time they meet.

Did not attend, or watch, but the freshman on Rice you speak of is Cam Ferris. No relation to former Mr. Basketball Ben Ferris, at least as far as I know.
