Re: Vermont HS BBall prospect discussion

Even if Shungu does not go to UVM as a frosh he is an ideal transfer back home candidate. If he transfers after is Sophomore season the PG position could be up for grabs.

He could also redshirt then develop as a freshman playing behind TBH/Ward as seniors. Then ED continues to play a combo as a senior while Shungu takes over the primary PG as a sophomore.

The guy could also prep a year and see what other opportunities may arise after that.

I am also really surprised it took so long for offers to roll in.....He is really good.

Shungu's offer is valid from what I've heard over the weekend. I believe it involves him red shirting his first year and then receiving the scholarship afterward (out of pocket first year) however that works someone else knowledgeable can educate me on that. I think given how much he's improved each year and continues to improve it's a good fit. High ceiling, explosive guard, and can really step into that role off the bench or however they use him. I think him sitting a year or playing a year of prep is what he needs (consistent high level of competition). It comes down to how bad he'll want it; off season preparation and judging by what i've seen so far I think he'll do well at the next level.

Future Plot twist: Kendrick Gray goes to UVM lol.. just a fun thought

Re: Vermont HS BBall prospect discussion

I'd suspect the offer from UVM is valid b/c Bryant accepted a verbal from a 2016 PG today that plays here in MA at the Brooks School/same type of player:

Speaking of other red shirts candidates, James Wells is having a really good year for Worcester Academy but apparently he still doesn't even hold a D2 offer, which is bizarre.

He's looked good in the video I've seen, maybe another walk-on/hopeful Rugg type?

I was under the impression the Wells already had a Canisius offer in hand. No idea whether that is still out there, but frankly he doesn't really fit a need for us. We have plenty of skinny 6'7" face up 4's already.

Word out of Newport, Kendrick Gray's hometown, is that Florida is showing some interest. Not sure how serious it is or if FL is just kicking the tires. The online ratings services have him as a 2 star guy, but maybe it has gone up with his play at VA.

He has had looks like that from AAU since summer up to this point as far as i know only offers have come from St Bona and Wintrop - he will have many chances to prove he is up to the caliber with another year at VT academy. Would still believe his ceiling max is low half A10 - AE and similar level is where he would find most success.
Wells info hard to come by he too plays on stacked team and Cancius info is pretty old at this point you wonder what situation is - I too would be okay with him as walk-on redshirt something or another because right now he is not necesarily a need but if come April and he has no scholarship offers and wants a chance to play for the hometown team and pay own way I see no issue in letting that happen.

Don't think that Canisius offer is still there. The St. Andrews prep coach Tweeted it was hard to believe Wells didn't even have a D2 offer after he scored 19pts.

Wells looks to be quite a different player now then he was at Rice- I wouldn't describe him as a skinny face-up 4. Most of his highlights from Worcester show him scoring around the hoop or dunking.

Just as a general rule, always take the "word out of hometown" with a few grains of salt.

Florida has definitely been to VA to see Christian David and could have shown someinterest, but Gray isn't on that level right now. A10-AE is about the right range unless he blows up over summer. To Gray's credit he's been improving a great deal at VA.

Did he legitimately get better or does he have less talent around him making him look better? Or maybe a little of both?
