You need some depth, too, but I generally agree with the 3 players point. That should get you near .500 in the league. I don't think Maine had three healthy, good players this year. Myers, yes. Fleming when healthy (but had some freshman growing pains). Er, maybe, but health and defense were an issue. He seems like a #4 guy to me. Eze is still raw.

Like I said, next year we should get our definitive answer on whether Bob Walsh can be the answer or not. I still think yes, but it's time to win basketball games. If it's a mess again, we can conclude it will just always be a mess as long as he is coaching there and move on. We'll see.

I think you may be underestimating Fleming. He has an excellent touch and nose for the ball. Defense is a team issue, put him in Vermont's defense and he would be fine. Eze is very raw and is probably ideally a first big off the bench in an ideal situation. He's too foul prone to play big minutes right now. Biggest needs for Maine that I can see right now beyond overall depth is an athletic 2/3 to team with Myers and a true rim protector at the 5.

Oh boy, mainejeff comes here to infect this forum, too. What's next ... Cim (bcbc55) coming aboard? Wouldn't that be just special.

And, of course, you would know (note the sarcasm). How about bringing bcbc55 aboard, too. He thinks he can find 8 players in Maine who, together, would turn things around. Walsh is a very good coach, as evidenced by his record at RIC. Also, a very good recruiter as per his work at three other Division I schools. How about admitting that Maine might be the most-difficult location/school in all of D-I to recruit. What 18-to-22-year old young adult wants to spend four years in Bangor? That's the entire issue. Terrible weather, lousy location and a state that produces, maybe, one or two legit D-I players in a four-year cycle. And, it seems, none of them want to play for the state school ... geez, can't imagine why. Oh, there are also some terrible fans who think they know more than the coaching staff.

And, three good players can win in the league? How many does Vermont have? How many does Albany have? Both, a lot more than three. Can you be any more uninformed? Like I said, bring Mr. Cim over here so he can also show his lack of expertise and insight.
But, he won't come over here.
At MBR, if you DARE to contradict resident "genius" Cim, you get banned. But, not here!

I think you are conflating my comments on Andrew Fleming (had health concerns and freshman growing pains) and Ilker Er (health and defense an issue, more of a 4th piece).

I agree that Fleming can be an excellent player in the league as he matures.

Have you read any of the garbage mainejeff has posted on the MBR board? If you did, you'd have a difference opinion.

And, here's the latest from "Mr. Cim:"
I have seen all of Maine's games online and I don't need to ]see the games in person to evaluate players or the games. What do you think coaches do when they have to watch tapes or online streamed material to scout opponents or recruits.

No coach ANYWHERE recruits any U.S. player they haven't seen in person. There are many, many opportunities, not only via high school games but at dozens and dozens of AAU Tournaments.
But, our resident "genius" Cim believes he can discern players' abilities without ever having seen them in person.
Straight out of his Peach Basket-era playbook.

How am I "infecting" anything by providing a link about Walsh from the BDN?

Not my fault you got kicked off MBR. You seem totally bitter. I have nothing to do with Cim & I could care less about him.

Pot calling the kettle black ... mainejeff was banned from the MBR board for a considerable amount of time for ludicrous comments over there. There does seem to be a low threshold over there, although mainejeff certainly deserved hi banishment. Just hope he doesn't go as crazy in this forum as he is over there.

Re: Maine fans: a plea for sanity

Here's some more "drivel" from the MBR board's resident "genius," Cim:

This is related to a post from a poster identified as "manny," who strongly disagrees with Cim's contention that Peter Gavett (who, of course, played for the almighty Cim in high school) was the most-highly recruited player in our state of Maine's history ...

Question the word man in man..ny as you don't have the intestinal fortitude to reveal who you are as you hide behind a user name like most of my critics, except TAL1957.

Gavett stayed home at Maine because of family member's serious health issue.

For your information Gavett didn't get enough touches because he didn't play point guard at Maine. If he had they wouldn't have lost to the state series teams. He was out of position as a forward.

For your information. when Gavett lead the olde Yankee Conference, which was certainly a lot tougher then America L'East today,in scoring average of points per game average his junior and senior years they didn't have the 3 point shot either. He also was in every one of the top 10 offensive categories that the Yankee conference kept at that time those two years.

FOR CIM'S INFORMATION, the olde Yankee Conference back then was extremely weak, as was UMaine's schedule. Maine played 10 games in each of Gavett's last two seasons against D-III teams (7) and D-II teams (3).
