FWIW JL has VT a 15....looks like the early consensus of UVM as the favorite this coming season is growing.

Reflecting on how this past season and prior seasons have gone, I think I prefer not being the preseason number 1. As a fan, I feel anxiety that we should win every game, even though no one ever does. When the inevitable unexpected losses happen, it's hard not to overreact and worry that UVM has somehow forgotten how to win. I know each team is different, but the coaches are usually not. In some of the years when UVM was very good and expected to win the season, I felt there were games when the team just didn't show up. It was like they expected to just win. I hope that that is not the case with this group of players.

This past year, I (as well as most fans) had tempered expectations. I was much more relaxed at games and just figured we'd win some and lose some and hopefully just get better. I think that's what happened and by the end of the season, they were pretty good and playing with house money. I was excited that they made the championship game, but didn't really feel like it was a game that had to be won. I'm sure SBU would have felt crushed had things not played out the way they did.

I guess, for me, expectations can cut both ways. Everyone wants their team to be good, but when those expectations aren't met, it hurts more. (Thanks to Albany for creating my current pained state of mind ;-))

I'm with ya but I think it's going to be unavoidable to be pre-season #1 .

Of course, lets get through August first and see if anyone transfers

It's also painful waiting 5 years for a title. I want to be number 1 and the team to beat. I want uvm to be beating all ooc opponents. Great players handle pressure

Just following up on this, from his Twitter it looks like Josh' trip to UVM was a short one/just a visit. Hoping he's able to come back soon and spend more time.

Re: 2016 - 2017 Vermont Catamounts

Does anyone think Vermont should be offering a JUCO or some other legit forward/SG to play in 2016? Or is the last 2016 scholarship to late and going to be used for 2017?

We're gaining 3 rotation players, all in the front court next season and only losing 1 player. We're also adding Shungu with reports he's going to red shirt, so do have that optionality.

I wouldn't be surprised if we added a transfer or unsigned 2016 senior. I also wouldn't be surprised if we waited for 2017. I do not feel the team needs to do anything based on above though.

Looking at Dingba's HS tapes, he really reminds me of a taller Dre Wills. If the year off can help him get healthy, I can see him being very productive.

I was thinking the same thing. A bit taller, great rebounder, works hard but offensively is still very raw. If he can get and stay healthy he could prove to be a great addition for us. Nice to see us add an athletic player though, we've really lacked that in years past. At the very least this year he can challenge the group in practice and make the guys work for everything.

Re: 2016 - 2017 Vermont Catamounts

A great team always needs athleticism, defense, and rebounding on the interior. Whatever offense Dingba gives is gravy, but that's really not why I love the addition. I don't think we've had a lot of athleticism/size/rebounding/defensive intensity on the interior lately- very noticeable the past two seasons w/ exception of O'Day, but even he wasn't the greatest rebounder. I like Payen/Urquhart but both are far better offensive players than they are defensive players.

How has Dingba's name come into the recruiting picture for UVM? Is he leaving Quinnipiac?
