Not that far off...

Fun to reread this thread. Team surpassed even the highest of our homer projections. What a fantastic ride!

Make no mistake about it, this year was magical.

All the stuff people joked about at the beginning of the year just about all came to fruition. Think someone said UVM was making the Sweet 16- that's like the only thing that didn't happen lol.

Re: 2016 - 2017 Vermont Catamounts

Next years opponents
Vs Qpac 12th season in a row. It could change with a new coach moving forward.
Vs Dartmouth ever year.
Vs Sienna 8th in a row.
Vs D3. Good luck to us getting a fifth or fourth real home game.
Maybes
@ Yale. Contract may be up after 10 in a row
@ NU contract may be up after 2. Coaching connection.
@ Harvard contract may be up after 6 years.

I imagine we will try to do a west coast trip next year for rohrer, Hearlihy, and drew connections. 2-3 out there.
@ Wisconsin on the way back.
Secure a home and home with a western upstate New York mid major for tre.
@ Arkansas might be tough to pull off. I'm not sure they want to get shown up by a missed local product in Henson and it's out of the way.

There is the 13 likely candidates for our 12 OOC games. It would set us up for 5 home games the year after.

They could also be invited to one of the preseason tourney's. That could include a Major team in there. I would like to see us play an MVC team or CUSA. For the New York team, how about a home and home with Buffalo of the MAC.

3 of the six UVM losses this year were to sweet 16 teams!

Sorry- my prediction of them becoming an NBA team did not come true. So that's a bit of a disappointment.

It wasn't the team's fault. NBA requires a bigger venue than Patrick Gym and that killed it.

Yeah, scared that might have been it as it was a non-contact injury and that's usually an ACL the way he went down.

Hoping for a healthy and speedy recover for Kurt.

Re: 2016 - 2017 Vermont Catamounts

This past year, many of us indicated our enjoyment of watching this fun, successful UVM team. Coach Becker and his staff seem to have a successful formula for recruiting coachable, team-oriented players. I make the above comment after reading an article about Geno Auriemma's (UCONN women's basketball Coach) critique of today's "me" culture which makes coaching very difficult. After reading the article, I thoroughly appreciated the job that Coach Becker and his staff have done. We are truly fortunate to have him at UVM.

Here is a link to the article:

Re: 2016 - 2017 Vermont Catamounts

We seem to have a lot of surprisingly cranky posters*, so I will apologize in advance if I am about to waste someone's time by posting something that may already have posted here or elsewhere.

Becker, Bell-Haynes Honored with ECAC Awards
Quote:
The Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) announced its 2016-17 Division I Men's Basketball Major Awards and All-ECAC selections on Thursday. Vermont head coach John Becker was honored with the ECAC Coach of the Year award and junior guard Trae Bell-Haynes landed on the ECAC First Team.
So glad Becker turned down Duquesne, and excited with TBH's development, and thrilled that Anthony Lamb is staying.

Also that Bell-Haynes, Lamb Named to NABC All-District Team. TBH (and SBU's Lucas Woodhouse) on the first team; Lamb (and UNH's Tanner Leissner) on second team.

And for the record, I don't mind at all that Becker is seizing the moment to push for the desperately needed new arena and improved facilities.

*most successful season, ever, people. Let's enjoy that, because, as Becker said, it's rare and may never happen again.

This season was a distant second to 05. In not sure how anyone can consider this season more successful
